Zamalek to bid for Berekum Chelsea hot-shot Clottey

Hat-trick hero Emmanuel Clottey high in demand

By Ameenu Shardow

Zamalek are preparing themselves to make an offer to Berekum Chelsea for their leading striker Emmanuel Clottey.

The 24-year-old was at his lethal best when he hit an impressive hat trick in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over the Egyptian giants in the opening group fixture of the Caf Champions League last weekend.

His eye-catching performance at the Accra Sports Stadium has got several clubs scrambling for his services of which Zamalek are prepared to break the bank for.

“We are ready to pay $1m to the club and a half million dollars every year for Emmanuel Clottey,” Zamalek Board Member Ibrahim Yusif told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“He is a good player and he scored three against us. So I will be discussing with the Board and I am sure we will make the offer.”

Though the annual remuneration for the player appears good, the initial offer of $1m falls below Chelsea’s expectation as the player is reported to cost in the region of $4m.

It also unclear whether the Champions League maiden campaigners are ready to sell off their lethal weapon especially with their ambition of making it to the latter stages of the competition.

Clottey who has had stints with Austrian club Wacker Inssbruck currently leads the goalscoring charts of the Champions League have scored nine goals in five games.

These local teams they pretend that they don’t have money when in crisis. The players eat bad food, sleeps in poor environment but they always case in big money.

  6. Oga kofi says:

West Africa claim to be the best on the continent and yet reality pities us. Players being cheated, people dying in fuel explosions as they want a share of free-volatile fuel. Most players survive on cassava and bananas whilst club owners get stink rich. Shame on us.

  7. nanakash says:

@Oga Kofi… are you sick in the head or what.
If this guy dare take this transfer i will walk naked in Accra. he should not even dream. more good offers are coming your way bro. stay put.

    • J. White says:

@nanakash: I think you’re the one who is rather “sick in the head”! What was wrong about what Oga Kofi said? Look around you. Can’t you see the mess are creating in West Africa? Look at the Ghana premier league and how much players are paid; the kind of pitches they play on. If you don’t have anything sensible to write don’t insult people who have opened their eyes to see what you can’t see.

As for Zamalek, Clottey would better advice himself not to go there; the North Africa clubs will definitely mess him up.

  12. rex says:

this is just a ploy by zamalek to destabilise chelsea in the competition it is quite apparent that Chelsea can cause an upset in this competition and Zamalek knows this. All the best Chelsea
