Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan believes youngsters coming through nowadays are ‘overhyped’ into not putting in enough hard work to earn sustained fame.

The Black Stars striker made this observation in an interview with a group of reporters moments before boarding his plane back to his UAE base after the international break.

Several Ghanaian players have suffered from the syndrome of impressing at first sight only to disappoint subsequently when much is expected of them.

Gyan is concerned the overboard hype these players receive will continue to derail their progress as budding talents.

“I think young players are overhyped and therefore they don’t work hard enough to get the fame,” he said.

“Asamoah Gyan worked very hard to get to where I am.

“Players come and play one or two good games and we think he is there when in actual fact he is not yet there.”

Asamoah Gyan has now entered the legendary status of Ghanaian players having broken and extended the record for all-time leading scorer of the Black Stars.

He now has 45 goals in 85 international appearance and can also boast of being the all-time African scorer in the history of the World Cup.
