Ghanaian striker Yakubu Mohammed says he is feeling at home at Maritzburg United and promises more goals after scoring the winner on his official debut for the club.

The 24-year-old scored the only goal of the match and was also named ‘Man of the Match’ after his lone strike secured a 1-0 win over Polokwane City during their Absa Premiership opener on Saturday night.

The former Ashanti Gold striker gave credit to his teammates and the technical staff for helping him to settle into the squad after joining the side late in their preseason.

“I was welcomed very well and everybody was happy with me;I’m like part of the family,” he said after the match.

"I was able to adapt to the weather very quickly; let’s see what the future holds.”

Mohammed says he has put his failed move to Orlando Pirates behind him as he is focused on finding the back of the net regularly for his new club.

“As a player anything can happen in football so life must move on because football is our way of life, so if something happens you have to try to use it to motivate yourself,” he added. “I think it’s one of the motivating factors for me.

“As a footballer and as a striker my aim is to try and put the ball in the back of the net.

"I think with hard work and determination, the help of my coach and the technical team and the management of Maritzburg we shall go forward.“I want to score more goals for the club and I’m trying to be one of the top scorers in the PSL.”
