MTNFootball.com has the lowdown on John Mensah injury return for Lyon, Jonathan Mensah's French league debut and more after mid-week action for Ghanaian players abroad.

FRANCE

Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah finally made his French Ligue 1 bow for Evian Thonon Gaillard on Wednesday evening.

Mensah who had warmed the bench in all six previous league matches was named in central defence as a ten-man Evian lost 2-0 to bottom-placed Olympique Marseille.

The 20-year-old moved from Italian side Udinese this summer ostensibly for more playing time but that seems to be backfiring.

Mensah lasted the entire duration of the match and compatriot midfielder Rabiu Mohammed was introduced in the 66th minute.

Marseille who recorded their first win in seven Ligue 1 games needed a Loic Remy brace to take points.

Andre Ayew started the match until he was replaced by his younger brother Jordan in the 72nd minute.

Midfielder Rabiu Mohammed was introduced on the 66th minute for Evian.

In other Ligue 1 games, enterprising center-back John Boye manned the defence of Stade Rennes who blew away Sochaux 6-2 at the Stade Auguste Bonal in Montbéliard.

Defender Jerry Vandam was assigned a right-back role in Caen's deserving 1-0 home triumph over Olympique Lyon.

Black Stars captain John Mensah played his first Ligue 1 game for Lyon in two seasons in the defeat.

ENGLAND

Full-back John Pantsil was in action for Leicester City who surrendered a 2-1 lead to lose 7-6 on penalties to Cardiff City in the Carling Cup.

Young striker Akwasi Asante was an unused substitute for Birmingham City in their 2-0 reverse at Manchester City. Midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong was in action for Arsenal as they won 3-1 against Shrewsbury Town but he was substituted.

ITALY

Black Stars duo Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Kwadwo Asamoah were in midfield for Udinese in their impressive one-all draw with AC Milan at the San Siro.

Kevin-Prince Boateng missed out due to injury.

Youngster Afriyie Acquah was after 66 minutes for Palermo who survived a late scare from Cagliari to win 3-2.

SWEDEN

Joseph Baffo was a member of the Helsingborg team that lost 3-2 defeat at Elfsborg.

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Yusif Chibsah made an injury return to play 27 minutes in Gefle IK's 1-1 draw at Norrkoping.

Youngster Joachim Adukor warmed the Gefle bench while James Frempong missed out of Norrkoping's first team.

Midfielder Reuben Aryana played full throttle for GIAS in their surprising 1-0 win over Trelleborgs.

TURKEY

Jerry Akaminko earned a starting place in central defence for Manisaspor who drew 1-1 at Fenerbache.

Striker Matthew Amoah started the game and played 61 minutes for Mersin who moved to sixth place after beating Antalyaspor 2-1 away.

SERBIA

Ghana defender Lee Addy lasted the entire regulation period for Red Star Belgrade in their 2-1 victory over Mladost in the Serbian Cup.

Neither Akwesi Frimpong nor Yaw Antwi played in Vojvodina's slim 1-0 win over Donji Srem.

UKRAINE

Winger Abeiku Quansah returned from injury to play 25 minutes in Arsenal Kiev's 5-0 demolishing of Oleksandriya in the Ukrainian FA Cup.

Both Samuel Inkoom and Derek Boateng played the full 90 minutes in Dnipro's 1-0 win over Titan A.
