Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has disclosed that the budget for Ghana’s 2014 World Cup campaign will be made public when it is approved.

Circling media reports claim the Ghana Football Association submitted a budget of around US$ 20 million to the ministry for approval.

Previous Black Stars budgets have been a subject to public debate and ministry and the Football Association want to be transparent this time round.

“When we conclude discussions on the budget with stakeholders and get approval from the President, we will let Ghanaians know, that’s all I can say for now. I won’t say anything further,” Afriyie-Ankrah told Accra-based Asempa FM.

There are suspicions that officials bloat figures in the budget to further their pockets.

Ghana had a budget of US$19 million approved for the last edition of the World Cup in South Africa.

The Black Stars will begin camping in Rotterdam and play Holland in an international friendly on 31 May before leaving to Los Angeles.

  1. selfmade says:

Do people trust this man? Trust this man at your own peril!! How can I trust such a man who has been included as one of the most richest Ghanaian alive though he is just a ordinary sports minister?!!! How can I trust this man who is always associated with the BS when he is the sports minister not the minister of football?!! Why is he always there for the bs but not other sports like volleyball or boxing but always the bs why?? Is there someone at the bs we don’t know of? Is the bs the black petroleum mine that’s why he is there? Infact, we have to watch this man keenly because he ll abuse the WC budget!! 20 million dollars for WC preparation? I can’t simply believe this! Why do we spend so much in WC when poor souls cannot even get food to eat? How can we spend 20 millions on WC preparation when the poor Ghanaian depends on half a dollar a day!!! This budget has been bloated by the minister and everyone involved and it ll be ridiculous if Ghanaians allow government to spend that money on a WC!!

  2. My problem is dat why cant we give the figures in our carency instead of allways dolars why, are Americans?? Pls reason up
