Sporting Lisbon striker William Owusu is struggling to make the grade at Orlando Pirates, where he has been on trial.

Insiders have told MTNFootball.com that the player has not lived up to expectations in his trials so far, but that he will be given more time to prove himself.

The resignation of coach Roger de Sa will likely throw a spanner in the works though with the new man in charge possibly to be consulted over a move for the 24-year-old.

That could delay any potential move until the end of the season, if Pirates go for him at all.

Owusu joined Sporting in 2008 but has yet to make a senior appearance for the side, instead going out on a series of loans, most notably to Belgium where he had success with Cercle Brugge and Westerlo.
