Asante Kotoko defender Abeiku Ainooson says the current crop at the club cannot hold themselves worthy if they fail to retain their Premier League title.

The champions have been rattled in recent games in the Ghanaian top flight where they have failed to win in three successive games.

Losses against King Faisal and Heart of Lions have seen Kotoko’s huge lead at the top sliced down to just nine points with seven games to go.

But Ainooson who is nursing an injury is confident the side can retain its championship but warned his colleagues to be prepared for the sack once they fail to do so.

“I will be the first to sack myself of we fail to win the league,” he told Metro FM.

“Hearts are breathing down our neck and we the players are very much aware of that.

“From what we have been able to do so far, if we fail to win the league then we must begin to sack ourselves from Kotoko.”

The Porcupine Warriors will be hoping to return to winning ways when they host Bechem United in their next game in the First Capital Plus League.
