Queen mother of Wenchi, Nana Ntoa Semendua, has urged Ghanaian fans to measure their criticism of Asamoah Gyan.

The royal is unhappy with the massive bashing of the Black Stars captain, leading to his decision relinquish his penalty-taking duties.

Gyan suffered public abuse following his infamous penalty misses against Uruguay and Zambia in 2010 and 2012 respectively.

The Al ain subsequently ceded his role to Andre Ayew in the wake of the huge public bashing.

But during a durbar to commission a water pump project funded by the Asamoah Gyan foundation at Wenchi over the weekend, Nana Ntoa Semendua urged fans to measure their criticism of the Black Stars skipper.

“Asamoah Gyan has excited Ghanaians for years with his football and is now touching lives outside the football pitch,” she said.

“He scores all the time to make Ghanaians happy, but then, when he misses penalty kicks, we all want to crucify him.

“That is not the way to go. We must rather encourage and urge him on to continue to excite us when needed the most.”
