We'll Not Be Pressured To Release Census Results - GSS

Posted On Saturday, 12th May 2012

The Ghana Statistical Service [GSS] has stated that they will not be pressured into releasing half-baked figures of the 2010 census.

The GSS have been flacked continuously for failing to reach their own deadline of April 30th for the release of the results.

Various political blocs including IMANI Ghana have raised concerns about the quality of work done by the Service.

The delay could have negative effects on government planning as well as the creation of new constituencies per the upcoming presidential elections.

However the Service has said that the 2010 census figures will only be released when they are good and ready.

The public relations officer of GSS, David Kombat however dismissed assertions that the delay in the figures reflects the poor quality of work done by outfit?s staff.

?This is not the first time that we have conducted a census. During a census we employ over 50,000 of people and this makes it hard to keep control the quality of handwriting among other things, so we are bound to have some challenges.? he said speaking on Joy News.

Kombat admitted that the GSS had challenges and needed time to address them.

He was however unable to give a specific time and date as to when the Statistical Service would be ready to release the 2010 census figures.
