We are going to win AFCON - Cape Verde coach declares

Posted On Friday, 1st February 2013

Cape Verde coach Lucio Antunes has predicted the debutants will lift the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) trophy.

The tiny island nation face giants Ghana in their quarterfinal in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, and Antunes believes they have proved their worth after finishing second in Group A, behind hosts South Africa only on goal difference.

“There is a big difference between before the tournament and now,” Antunes said on Friday.

“Initially we were very confident, but now more. We are now more confident and stronger as well. We think we are going to the final.

“Zambia won the last tournament because they were the strongest. We are going to win the tournament, that’s why we are here.”

The coach believed the hard work his team had put in had paid off during the group stages, and would continue to yield results.

“Our team is very serious. We have been working a lot for this tournament.

“We know ourselves and we’re ready for any of teams in this tournament. We very confident and we’re here to win.”

Captain Fernando Neves said their opposition would underestimate Cape Verde at their own peril.

“We are here to carry on, we came here to stay and already we have eliminated a few teams who were thought to be better than us,” Neves said.

THIS REMINDS ME OF A MAN WHO TRAVELED FROM THE VILLAGE TO THE CITY TO BUY A BRAND NEW CAR FOR TRANSPORTATION BUSINESS.
THE MAN HAD TO HIRE A DRIVER TO DRIVE HIM BACK TO HIS VILLAGE SINCE HE DIDN’T KNOW DRIVING.A KILOMETER AFTER THEY TOOK OFF,THE CAR OWNER INSTRUCTED THE DRIVER TO PACK BESIDE THE ROAD AND WAIT THAT HE WILL GET A SACHET OF ICE WATER FORGETTING THAT ALL PAPERS CONCERNING THE PURCHASED CAR ARE TIGHT INSIDE THE FRONT LOCKER WHILE THE CAR REMAINED UNREGISTERED .WHEN THE SAID CAR OWNER CAME BACK TO THE SPOT AFTER SUCCESSFULLY BUYING HIS ICE WATER,HE COULDN’T BELIEVE HIS EYES THAT HIS WHITE COLOR TOYOTA HIACE VAN’S POSITION WAS OCCUPIED BY A BLACK COLOR BENZE BUS.THE MAN IMMEDIATELY WASHED HIS FACE THREE TIMES WITH THE WATER HE HAD JUST BOUGHT JUST TO MAKE SURE THERE WASN’T ANYTHING WRONG WITH HIS SIGHT.AFTER ALMOST ALL THE PEOPLE AROUND TOLD HIM THAT THE SAID TOYOTA HIACE HAS SINCE SPED OFF,HE QUICKLY ASKED?
”IS IT POSSIBLE TO CRY HERE?”
”NO,NO ONE IS SUPPOSE TO CRY HERE!
HE CONTINUED….”WHAT ABOUT SAYING I AM IN DEEP SHIT?”
    THE CROWD ANSWERED…..

    POINT OF CORRECTION.”PARK not PACK”

  9. hmm! see who is braggng, wait untll tomorrw.we wll snd u packng to ur tiny island.

  10. Chu says:

Angola was a lazy team. Morocco were a little to late in their jell. South Africa just found rythm. Niger would had qualified if they were in group A. We bragged last year and some yaba weevils ate us up. We are expecting the toughest match in the tournament and we must progress. No Cape Verde plane has ever crashed on the RSA coast so no ghost. Only the Ivory Coast can stop us now because they feel like killing us anytime they see us. Howbeit we should be cautious in our expectations.

    • TT says:

Niger is better and stronger than Cape Verde. This coach is seriously afraid, just playing mind games. He still remember Ghana beating Cape Verde with our Team B. Guys, expect an explosion of goals from Wakaso, Kwadwo, Atsu, Badu and Gyan

  11. zambia is a shit hole! says:

    He is gettn carried away.

  12. selfmade says:

Joe,u just won only one match in this tournament ooooh!!! Zambia team is better than yours because they beat any opposition during the last afcon whiles u have picked only one win!!! Stop blowing before u are blown away!!! Angolans were simply careless otherwise u wouldn’t be talking like this!!!! U have a big mouth but it ll be shut forever!!! Viva the revolutioncioooooooooo!!!!

  13. TT says:

All of a sudden Cape Verde thinks they have arrived, no humility and respect for others? Go and ask Zambia what they gained out of arrogance.

  14. kuukuphilly says:

its ok,hes just trying to energize his guys cause this one will be toooooooooo much for them.
