Ghana missed out on the African Nations Championship trophy after losing 4-3 on penalties to Libya in the final on Saturday night in Cape Town.

The Local Black Stars, playing in the second final in three editions of the tournament, lost to DR Congo 2-0 in the final of the inaugural edition in 2009.

Goalkeeper Adams saved two spot kicks from, Mohamed Elgadi and Abdelsalam Omar after the first five kicks tied at 3-3 and sudden death penalties ensued.

Ahmed El Trbi scored the sixth penalty for Libya before Joshua Tijani missed his for Ghana to spark celebrations from the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.

The final match of CHAN, South Africa 2014 was played before an appreciative crowd of just under 17 000 that included CAF President Issa Hayatou and his invited guest FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

It was a lively and competitive match from first whistle with both sides eager to open the scoring but clear cut scoring opportunities were few and far between.

Twenty-two minutes into the match Libya’s Faisal Ali too committed in a challenge on Mohamed Mahfud earned him a yellow card as the game opened up more and the crowd bayed for more of the entertaining stuff.

Ghana’s midfield was string some shorts passes with Abraham Attobrah at the heart of their creative play as he linked up with Seidu Bansey , Joshua Tijani, captain Jordan Opoku and Sulley Mohammed to give the Black Stars territorial advantage.

The Libyans defence anchored by captain Ali Salama held firm and whatever went past goal-minder Mohamed Abdaula dealt with. Ghana finished the first half in ascendancy but the scoreboard remained blank.

Twenty-seven (27) minutes into play some neat exchanges allowed Theophilus Anobaah to turn inside that box but Ahmed Trbi recovered in time to stop a shot on goal as Ghana came close again.

At the other end Elmutasem Abushnaf failed to keep his short low and on target after working his way to the edge of Ghanaian penalty box.

In the second half Libya pushed more bodies upfront but it was Ghanaian substitute Yahaya Mohamed who came closest to breaking the deadlock with an attempted back kick.

He didn’t quite connect and Ahmed Almaghasi cleared the danger.

The goal remained elusive and into extra time it went. Abushnaf’s header from Elmehdi Elhouni sailed centimeters over the cross bar.

Sulley Mohamed saw his effort trickle past the post as Ghana came agonizingly close.

Adams saved a goal bound effort from Libyan substitute Muataz Fadel and then it was time for penalty shoot-out.

What in the world is wrong with this stephen admas guy. From the begining of the competition, anytime he makes an arial challenge he lays on the ground screaming. Its becoming annoying to watch.

  2. spellBOUND says:

Why is saka the only one taking corners and free kicks. Aaaaaaah, he has not delivered a decent ball into the box all game. He’s wasted a lot of kicks…….smh

The ref also sucks. Whistle every 2 seconds. This game has no flow whatsoever…..

  3. selfmade says:

Yahaya Mohammed sha pass all the Ghanaian players!! So this is the guy who leading our attacks!! Am not surprised this team is one goal project¡

  4. selfmade says:

This yahaya Mohammed is falling down all over the place like a babe!! Am not surprised Ben koufie said non of these players deserves a call up to the Bs!!

  5. duodu says:

    And the wait continues!!!

  6. kuukuphilly says:

what have we done to our ancestors at all..ooh why again GHANA.

  7. allese says:

That is ur Stephen Adam, the one U prefer than fatau dauda, hmmmmmm

  8. duodu says:

The penalty project has crashed, and the trophyless wait continues. I’m happy we didn’t win because we don’t deserve to win the ultimate with this awful offense.

  9. AUSSY GUY says:

@Kuukuphilly u want to know why I will tell ya Ghana are Gay country till the country accept JESUS no trophy lol

    God bless Nigeria

  10. johnny says:

I’d fire the coach for stupidly-adamantly continuing to play the absolutely useless Yaya Mohammed!

  11. AUSSY GUY says:

@Kuukuphilly ask what ur GAY CUNTRY done to the Mighty LIVING GOD hahahahahaha Gay country oh why oh why hahahahahahahahahaha

    God bless Nigeria

  12. selfmade says:

Infact am so disappointed with yahaya Mohammed!! Damn what a wasteful player!! Did I heard one of our main technical man saying that yahaya has impressed him in Chan? The fact of the matter is, this guy is one of the most useless striker Ghana has ever produced!! He has no feet, tango with defenders for nothing and has a very poor first touch and am not surprised that we relied solely on one goal project to reach the finals and I was even impressed with bansey than so called yahaya Mohammed!! The guy sucks big time because as striker u don’t always tango with defenders for the ball but rather u look for spaces to exploit but he was invariably challenging for all the aerial balls committing a lot of fouls! This guy has really disappointed me because I heard he was a solid striker but his performances today leaves much to be desired!!!

  13. Papadinho says:

This team is the most useless ever!!! I even quit watching the match because this Ghana team sucks big time!!!! Kwasiafo), Odwan ne aponkye team. Nkwasiafo) paa nie?? hhmmm no wonder no trphy in 32 years!!!!
Maybe dauda juju the players who knows. lol
    Bless

  14. selfmade says:

This Chan team is one of the most poorest, sorry Ghana team ever though they managed to reach the finals with luck!!! But I think there is still hope because the two central defenders are very solid guys who we can rely on in the future!! Moreover, the no 11, latif and ainosoo are also quiet good!! Bansey today show a lot of heart as he sometimes dropped deep to receive passes but didn’t haveany ssupport from yahaya who has no feet, fallen down with least contact and sometimes flat footed even when he controls the ball!! Who were our midfielders because it seems we only send defenders and defensive midfielders without any attacking or playmaker!! Stephen Adams has really done wonderfully well and I think he deserves a call up to the national team!

  15. selfmade says:

My question is apart from yahaya mohammed, was there any strikers on the bench? All our fouls were ironically committed by this guy who happens to be the striker!! Wow! Hahahaaa!!! The tall Libyan defender was all over him and instead of stop hustling with him and rather exploit for spaces, he was constantly challenging this defender for all he aerial balls committing a lot of unnecessary fouls!! Again, as a striker, u face the goalpost not the other way round but watch this so called striker carefully and u will realized one thing that, his back is always facing the goalposts and am not surprised he cldnt registered one shot at goal!!! He is always running aimlessly with his dreadlocks, busy for nothing for the whole duration of the game!! A striker looks for spaces to explore but not to tackle and hustle with defenders because once u do that, u making the work of the defenders easy because that’s what a defender is suppose to do, interfere with the activities of a striker and this dummy didn’t know that!!!

  16. OK73best says:

This is not the issue of your ancestors, the Lord is known for HIS righteous judgment. Ghana was instructed and encouraged to be cruel, brutal and wicked without respect for the good rules of fairplay in football, during the semi final against Nigeria, Ghana was surprisingly loaded in their hearts with wicked and evil intention: to kill the key players of nigeria if possible, but thanks to God for reviving that innocent boy back to life. If football continues that way, then, there is no point of engaging in it as means of harmonizing the World Nations. With such wickedness, note this well, Ghana “may unknowingly” sacrifice her good chances of attaining glorious topmost spot in the world of football, both in this continent and globally. THE FEAR OF GOD IS THE BEGINING OF THAT NEEDED WISDOM (FOR GHANA) AND TO DEPART FROM EVIL IS UNDERSTANDING (JOB. 28:28). GOD BLESS AFRICA!!!

  17. selfmade says:

Yahaya Mohammed is like kwame ayew of old!! Both run a lot on the pitch and that’s where the diff ends!!! Whiles kwame ayew runs a lot sometimes, he can be clinical and can carry a team on his shoulders!! Yahaya on the other hand runs headless without even a single shot on target by a so called striker!! This dude ll be in kotoko for a very long time unless he changes his style of play because a striker wgi cannot register a single shot in a match is is useless!!

  18. Zargon says:

Hahahaha I don’t know whether that rasta man was on drugs or just playing? What was he doing? Jumping all over the place like a Ping pong ball. Can’t control the ball, know vision just plane stupid. The only players that impressed was the goal keeper and the central defender with that bandage on his head. The rest of the show boating useless I say again useless players!!!!!! I am pissed offfffffff sooooooo much. When at all would we see things through to the finish???

  19. ohenenana says:

Ghana paa omo gu yen niem asi and for the haters dont talk we went to the finals where was zambia nigeria or egypt at the world cup when the real blackstars will play not this shit local blackstars we will disgrace usa and portugal we will schock people at the world cup ghana can go to final nigeria wont even win one group match like last cup and zambia egypt are not there because we eliminated them blackstars number one you haters get out of this page

  20. AUSSY GUY says:

  21. egyptian says:

libya fucked ghana literally hahahahaha . congratulations to our arab brothers :))

    • spellBOUND says:

he-goat. So u finally show up after we lose…lol. U were no where to be found after that 6-1mauling. Enjoy this victory. I’m happy for libya. I blame my Ghanaian brothers for not winning in regulation. Panel ties are a toss up. When u win it, it’s all dandy, but when u lose, u must know that it could have went the other way… If this Ghanaian team had a good striker, they would have been impossible to beam. The best defense in the tournament, a good midfield, but poor attack…. Congratulate us Arab brothers for me Egyptian. Later…..

      • egyptian says:

1- i didn’t have the time to comment in your shitty site in the last 2 months :)

2- ghana team is bad . all teams in this tournament are fucken bad . any team in the egyptian league can win this tournament easily .

3- impossible to beat ? hahahhaha yeah lol

    • Ghanaman says:

Egyptian thief… Both Libya and Egypt have zero world cup wins. ZERO!! Small Arab teams. Notice the CRIMINAL ref was a Arab. So for the group game an Arab ref and the Final and Arab ref.. That can only happen in CAF but you will never win a world cup game. :)

  22. danny Daniels says:

Thank you God for not allowing this over confident coach to win the trophy. Ghana will continue to be trophy-less until the stupid GFA prez stops running Ghana football base on tribe. Where are all Black-Stars matches played in Kumasi? also why is the black stars coach and his assistance both ex Kotoko players? hmmmm ..FYI Ghana does not belong to the Ashante’s.. God bless mother Ghana

  23. Papadinho says:

Guys keep cool headed please. Why she’s because of this useless team? Let’s keep the focus on the main black stars. That’s where the hope is and not this rotten dudes. We should also start investigation on dauda cause he juju dem players today’s that’s why we lost. Another upcoming breaking news: dauda warms the bench again despite ex coach dismissal.
    Bless

  24. De Surgeon says:

Any time gayna beat Naija in d semi-final, they will not smell that cup! Ghana de enemy of progress!

  25. kuukuphilly says:

@aussy,I didn’t ask for ur fucking opinion so if u have something derogative to say,say it to ur mother and father, abua.

  26. lincoln says:

    Enjoy your silver Ghana

  27. A concerned citizen says:

First and foremost who ever selected this team did a very bad job.Throughout the tournament there was no bite upfront and there was no play maker. How come coach Tetteh always select all round team? To me Yaya Mohammed could be a second striker but not a top striker. How come a striker who is suppose to maintain his composure looking for an empty space to strike fouling opponents rather to bring negative. When will he get an advantage to score? The players also spoil the game for themselves. How come they can not cope with them in air balls but rather played to their advantage? So the technical bench did not see anything wrong with that? Why not play the ball on the turf? None of these players qualify to be in the national team.

  28. Ghanaman says:

I can’t take this anymore…why why??? Failing at the last hurdle…mtcheeeew!

  29. selfmade says:

For the past decade and half, Ghana has broken heart than any other African national team… Here are the list… In 92, Ghana were losing finalist against ivory coast thru the lottery of penalties and this team was up of one of the most talented Ghana team ever!! In 2008, when we had the opportunity to host the afcon for the third time with our mantra, host and win, we fall to a painfall nkong solitary grab and smash goal at ohene djan stadium in front of a capacity crowd and that Ghana team was also full of class players!! Thirdly in under 20 WC in Argentina, after sending Brazil packing during extra time win courtesy of john mensah header, we fall by three goals to nothing against saviola Argentina which was shocking to say the least!! Fourthly, in afcon 2010, after shocking the world with under 20 players, expectations were high but the drama still continue!! After holding our own against almighty Egyptian team, we finally carved in to gedos grab and smash goal around the 91st mins!!! The next page of the drama was still to be unfolded in afcon 2012!! Zambia survived our onslaught for most part of the game and then finally and clinically nailed us with mayuka grab and smash goal at the lower hand corner of Adam kwaraseys goal!! That was so painful considering the fact that we could have won that afcon if only we have taken our chances against zambia!!! The theatrics wasn’t over as we carried it to the world cup in south Africa and what a sorrowful sight when asamoah guan blast that ball high up into the south African skies and what a wasted opportunity for Ghana and Africa considering that we could have made history and becomes the greatest ever African football nation of all times but we blew it again!!! My friend here in the states always shed tears whenever he remember that wasted opportunity and I personally have had nightmares anytime I remember that night in south Africa!! A year after our debacle with zambia in gabon-eq guinea, the heartbreak occurred again with our loss to Burkina Faso in south Africa and here I ll send my sincere apologies to south Africa fans as they have really stood behind us in all endeavors and everyone was a witness to the deafing silence that befall the stadium when Ghana spoiled their first two penalties!!!! Thank u south africans !!! Now another new chapter has been opened again in cape town south Africa, when Ghana again has broken the heart of its supporters and baghana, baghana faithfuls by losing to Libya in a very gruelling match!!! Again, losing another opportunity thru penalties in south Africa!!! Lose to Uruguay thru penalties, lost to Burkina thru penalties and now has lost to Libya thru penalties all in south Africa!! Amazing!!! When will the god of soccer break this dreadful jinx for us so that at least we can end this trophless trend!!! Thanks to all south African supporters!!! U did your best for us but once again we disappointed u!!!

    • GHFUO, be serious & change ur MENtality says:

@SELF MADE: THE ONLY THING VERY COMMON IN WAT YOU’VE POINTED OUT IS THIS. ATTENTION TO DETAIL. WEN IT MATTERED MOST, GH ALWAYS COMES UP SHORT. WHY U ASK? BCOS WE LOSE FOCUS AND CONCENTRATION. WE GET CAUGHT UP IN THE SIDESHOW RATHER THAN FOCUSING ON THE JOB. KEEPING OUR EYE OF THE TIGER ON THE GOAL AND KEEPING IT THERE UNTIL IT IS SNATCHED. THE ONLY TIME I’VE SEEN THAT IN GH WAS AT THE U20 WCUP. COMPLACENCY AND HVE ARRIVED SYNDROME

  30. Ashantigreats says:

Well commented guys,lo and behold, you Should not blame the coach to have substituted that. Sulley for yaya.both of them Were persona-non grata .i think Ainooson Nuru Adams Should join the troops to brazil They did well Than the senior team against Egypt. Not forgetting that useless Sumaila.lastly these youngsters Were the best penalty-shooters that ghana has ever produced, according to statistics .Look at Vorsahs penalty against Burkina faso John Mensah against Uruguay.thes lads Could have executed better.

  31. @Charlie Watzup says:

    Stupid people

  32. apiangalege says:

Hey,I thought Ghanaians don’t value African cups and belittles and playdown it when they don’t win it?Why all the lamentations and heart attack over a “worthless” African trophy? Is it now that you guys realised that your team played a strange kind of football worst than AIDS?If you had won last night most of you complaining now would ve justified the ugly diseased football you shamelessly displayed yesterday. No wonder you ll continue to remain trophy less for decades to come

  33. apiangalege says:

Pride and arrogance is the albatross on the neck of Ghanaian footballers and their fans! The Bible says God resist the proud but gives grace to the humble.Be humble Ghana and you ll experience God’s lifting. Be magnanimous in victory and appreciate God even in defeat. But will the puffed up Ghanaians ever listen?

  34. egyptian says:

@selfmade this brings tears to my eyes :D

  35. Sokoni says:

My best game was GHana vs Nigeria african football has gone . You Ghanaians should stop crying game was useless. Libya does not reflect african soccer . Soccer management needs an overhaul . By complaining it’s like comparing two short people and asking who is taller

  36. Sokoni says:

I Am convinced World Cup is a disaster awaiting africa quality of play was bad

  37. EJNANG says:

GHANA’S TIME IS COMING. AT LEAST THEY CAN AFFORD TO REACH THAT FAR!!!!!!!!!!!
