Ghana midfielder Michael Essien tasted defeat on his full debut for AC Milan as they fell 3-1 at Napoli on Saturday.

The 31-year-old was in full time action for the Rossoneri but couldn’t inspire them to a famous defeat in the Serie-A match.

Fellow Milan debutant Adel Taarabt opened the scoring after just eight minutes but that lead was short lived as Napoli struck back three minutes later through Gokan Inler.

Gonzalo Higuain edged the hosts into the lead 11 minutes into the restart before he completed his brace eight minutes from time.

The defeat is another major setback for Clarence Seeforf’s side as they struggle to salvage what is left of a shambolic Serie-A campaign this term.

Essien’s return to full time first team action will however delight many as he struggled to notch down a precious game time during his latter days at Chelsea.

Fellow Ghanaian Sulley Muntari was an unused substitute in the defeat to Napoli.
