Waris responds to Black Stars snub by scoring five goals for Hacken

Posted On Wednesday, 16th May 2012

In-form Waris was excluded from the Black Stars squad to face Lesotho and Zambia

By Ameenu Shardow

Abdul Majid Waris responded to his national team snub by scoring FIVE GOALS in Hacken’s 6-0 drubbing of Norrkorping on Wednesday evening in the Swedish top flight.

The 20-year-old was shockingly excluded from a 30-man squad released by Black Stars coach Akwasi Appiah earlier on Wednesday for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zambia in June.

But the youngster, who was Ghana’s hottest striker anywhere on the planet on averages this year, showed why his omission was a mistake by scoring five times in Wednesday’s game.

The on fire Waris single-handedly destroyed Norrkorping by scoring in the 5th,  13th, 44th, 52nd and 66th minute with Martin Ericsson scoring the other on the stroke of half-time.

He thus makes history as the first Ghanaian to score five goals in a single top-flight game in Europe.

The Tamale-born attacker is the leading goal scorer in Sweden after hitting eight in four consecutive games to take his overall tally to twelve in nine matches this season.

His exclusion is even more worrying at a time that proven Ghana goalscorers Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew are not available.

Waris made his Black Stars debut in February’s 1-1 draw with Chile in an international friendly played in the United States.

      PAY B4 SERVICE

      • Tardi boy says:

GFA or Appiah needs upfront payment, as simple as that because I see no other reason than that, we have been praying for a Striker and here comes a natural striker if Mr. Appiah sees it fit to call Adiyiah and leave Waris and others then I have no other reason than to believe that Waris must pay first, this is unfortunate, WE NEED TO PUT PRESSURE UNTIL WARIS IS CALLED TO PROVE HIS CAPABILITIES.

  1. Infact,am shocked at this younge striker.we need him in the bs more than the word need.

  2. Nana yaw says:

Eeeiiiiiii, Appiah i did nt want to talk bt for today i will talk. Adiyiah is included hmmmm. He called da local players because he promised to do so. So in Ghana he only saw chelsea and Edubiase. Dis chelsea, aduana nd edubiase disgraced us at can. If he dnt knw he shld ak hebert addo. Yoooooooo am done

  3. Rashid says:

wow wonderful keep it up n ur time ‘ll definitelly come,, all the best

  4. wow says:

Its good not to be called… this Mafia GFA nonsense isn’t the place to develop as a proper young player … leave the BS nonsense to the GPL old men who are still playing in Ghana at 35….pretending to be 22

  5. Muiz says:

Oooh my word!what a wonder kid. What?5 in a league match. This guy is too much. What some exterblish strikers cld nt do in two seasons he has than it in a single match. Good wrk dan.

  6. biggy says:

it is not too late to call him. he is our best striker in europe, what is adiyia doing in the squad? kwasi appiah dont behave like plavi, we need activbe players.

  7. Tsintsinga Lapaz says:

Instead of inviting free scoring and in-form Waris,Akwesi invited habitual bench warmer Adiyiah.Akwesi pls shine your eyes before u become the unprecedented local coach that failed to qualify the Black Stars to the WC after two foreign coaches had succeeded.

  8. Nii Kwatei says:

Wow, i’m speechless. This is an absolutely outstanding acheivement. Let’s see if he can maintain this form. And if so, I vehemently believe he deserves a place in the Black Stars.

  9. Joseph says:

And adiyiah couldnt even score 5 in 4 years!

  10. leon london says:

    ‘Kwasia Appiah’ LOOL
As soon as i saw the squad i knew it was a mistake to leave out this boy and yiadom. then i hear waris scored 5 goals. appiah, this must be the last time you leave waris out, if you like your job, then select with your brain and eyes, not with bribes and the patrioticism that sees random local players picked ahead of future european stars. thank you.

  11. mukmin says:

He’s been very impressive this season he is definitely a clinical striker with immense potential if he can stay healthy. Injuries were a problem for him last season but he seems to have overcome that this season. I’m a bit disappointed he wasn’t called up ahead of Adiyah but he should keep working hard and it will be impossible to ignore him.

  12. ujean says:

hmmm,i said it as if i knew waris was going to score,i said he shud be in now luk,12 gols in 8 matches, superb

  13. No Body says:

Congrat my guy.. Even in UAE so kald world klas striker was not able to score even 3 goals in a match… Ur tym will surely kam just pray to God and train hard for ur reward will kam…

  14. ndoo-ndoo says:

How did adiyah get picked ahead of waris? how many matches did adiyah play? how many goals has he scored? thanks to gs, week in week out, waris has been consistent. please Mayele, be careful, be careful. ps how about yiadom boakye?

  15. Fu-Chu says:

I have watched his clippings on YouTube. This kid is fantastic and dribbles very very well. I cannot fathom how Kwasi Appiah will invite Adiyiah and not this young man. Ghana and the Black Stars need him.

  16. kuuku says:

    Kwesi appiah where r u ooo,yooo!!

  17. Rabiu, Dynasty Restaurant. says:

FACT: He is not only the first Afrian & for that matter Ghanaian to score 5 goals in a single match in European topflight football but also the first player in Swedish top league. This is undoubtedly a very extraodinary & remarkable feet. He can now be countered among few players in the world to have scored 5 goals in a single match at the highest level. Notable among these players are the Great Messi, Alan Shearer, Gerd Muller, Andy Cole, Oleg Salenko, Daniel Fonseca, Jurgen Klinsman etc. WARIS is indeed a GEM. Remember, his age means he is only a budding star and that his best is yet to come.Lets pray to Almighty Allah he continues with this form & devoid of injuries which plagued his career last season. Ameen.

  18. Assisi says:

It’s not too late Kwasi Appiah. Invite Waris now before u reduce the players u have so far called to 23 so that he can play against Lesotho and Zambia. This boy Waris is on fire. We really need a player of his character and he fits the bill perfectly.

    • Tardi boy says:

So what is he waiting for, what can we do to get the Waris in the squad. I am so much disappointed, Mr. Appiah better know what he is doing Coz we would not tolerate any more heart breaks.

  19. Tsintsinga Lapaz says:

Even Papiss Cisse couldnt score 12 goals in 9 games.Waris deserves a call up now.Akwesi, its still not late to call him bcos we need to teach this Zambians a lesson in football.

  20. Don Sarge says:

Hmmmm. i hav a funny feeling

  21. GFA CANT MESS WITH GHANAIANS. says:

What is Adiyiah doing in the squad? Akwesi, we don’t need this mind games your playing with Ghanaians. If you say you have been a player before and wants the national team coach, can’t you see adiyiah is in no form to even be on the reserve of the BS? Why did you leave Warris out and instead called Adiyiah? If you continue like this, your time will surely come. Trust me and mark my word. Period.

  22. DOGO says:

As far as i can remember, scoring has been our problem all these times so why are we leaving out a player who has proven to be a great scoreer out our squad? I don’t understand. Can AkwasiaPiah explain that to me…. Please!!!! We don’t want anymore had breaks oooo ton!!! Ghana should be able to convert the hard work of the midfield into a superb finishing. From time immemorial, the black stars have been known to be poor finishers. We can play nice football from the midfield but fail to finish it nicely. Please lets bring this guy in to help solve that problem for us. Please AkwasiaPia do something.

    • Tardi boy says:

Tell the guy to pay up upfront, as simple as that because I see no other reason than that, we have been praying for a Striker and here comes a natural striker if Mr.

  23. Am glad that Yartey finally got a call up. So exciting. Atsu is another energetic lad who refuse to give up. I like his eagerness n will to succeed. I compare him with Chamberlain of Arsenal. Waris is another shock. Ghana is blessed with Talents all over the world. More will spring out soon. Hope Tawrick Jibril is working harder too where ever he may be. Ghana will make a statement come 2014 world cup.

  24. Peedi Crack says:

Besides Yartey and Atsu, this kid is the other player we all thought will be called up….and I agree with errbody on this, how da hell is adiyiah in the squad and not Waris????? I hope GSN can write a letter to kwesi appiah and GFA to really take a look at this kid who is working his ass off in sweden, scoring excellent goals, very clinical finishing, thats what we need, and we never had, asamoah gyan is not evena clinical finisher but this kid is!!!! kwesi appiah needs to call him so that he will transitioning into our leading striker smoothly, instead of bringing him on later after a public outcry if his inclusion, which will put lotta pressure on the kid to score the goals we badly need!!! we need to average more than 1 goal a game and we all believe this kid, jordan, dede, atsu, yartey, boakye-yiadom and baffour can really help us infront of goals….adiyiah should never be called up until he proves himself in whatever team he plays for in europe!!!!!

    • Tardi boy says:

Tell Waris to pay up upfront, as simple as that because I see no other reason than that, we have been praying for a Striker and here comes a natural striker if Mr.

  25. Peedi Crack says:

correction: outcry of his inclusion not if his inclusion.

  26. Peedi Crack says:

I guess adiyiah will be giving kwesi appiah a portion of whatever money he made, playing for Arsenal Kiev!! hahahahahaha cus we all know adiyiah is not on waris level, he needs to prove himself first on any team, it dont even matter if it is german bundesliga 3, playing alongside Joe Fameyeh. Or league 2 in england!!! And guess what yall, I will rather take Joe Fameyeh’s old ass b4 i take adiyiah cus fameyeh has been a bundesliga 3 goal king for a lotta years!!!! We need real goal scores and waris can get the job done, alongside other called up players, and not adiyiah!!!!

  27. kofa says:

You leave the good ones and call Adiyah for what?

  28. Whocares? says:

Give Adiyiah a break. Some coaches know how to bring out the best in some players. Kwasi Appiah might make him rediscover his form.

It’s a good thing to invite Waris and Boakye Yiadom, since they are proven goal scorers.

  29. koo says:

Ghanaian coaches stop taken bribes and call people like this guy and not Adiyiah and—–?

  30. pak says:

i see no changes still the fucking old story..the coach is just the same as the others, i thought this is the coach who talk about making selection base on form….if that then what about Adiyiah this guy lost it all after the under 20 tournament, beside adiyiah will be 35yrs this yr i was shock wen i heard the news of him being part of the under20 team.be cos i know him to be over age player.hate it or luv it..Waris is far better than Adiyiah when it comes to form.but am not surprise about this be cos our BS that i know is full of corruption n that is pay as you play.
