Wakaso remains modest despite debut Ghana goal delight

Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso is filled with joy following his debut goal for the Black Stars.

The 22-year-old scored the only goal in Ghana’s 1-0 win over Cape Verde in an international friendly match played on Wednesday.

The Espanyol player was making just his first start in his second appearance for the Black Stars against the fellow 2013 Nations Cup finalist.

The former AshantiGold player in savouring the moment is however not losing track of the bigger picture.

“You can just imagine my joy, this was my second appearance and my first start so it says it all,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“However despite my unconfined joy, it is the team that matters.

“We pray and hope the team keeps moving from strength to strength to the satisfaction of all Ghanaians.”

Wakaso’s goal against Cape Verde could all but secure his place in the final squad for the Nations Cup proper that kicks off early next year in South Africa.

Ghana is drawn in Group B alongside Mali, Niger and DR Congo and will be based in Port Elizabeth.

The Black Stars open their campaign on January 20 against the Congolese at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
