Wakaso remains modest despite debut Ghana goal delight

Wakaso over-joyed with debut Ghana goal

Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso is filled with joy following his debut goal for the Black Stars.

The 22-year-old scored the only goal in Ghana’s 1-0 win over Cape Verde in an international friendly match played on Wednesday.

The Espanyol player was making just his first start in his second appearance for the Black Stars against the fellow 2013 Nations Cup finalist.

The former AshantiGold player in savouring the moment is however not losing track of the bigger picture.

“You can just imagine my joy, this was my second appearance and my first start so it says it all,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“However despite my unconfined joy, it is the team that matters.

“We pray and hope the team keeps moving from strength to strength to the satisfaction of all Ghanaians.”

Wakaso’s goal against Cape Verde could all but secure his place in the final squad for the Nations Cup proper that kicks off early next year in South Africa.

Ghana is drawn in Group B alongside Mali, Niger and DR Congo and will be based in Port Elizabeth.

The Black Stars open their campaign on January 20 against the Congolese at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

No doubt he deserve a place in the final squad and Quincy Owusu Abeyie too.

  2. Paul says:

I think akwasi appiah would base his afcon squad on those he has assesed. Quincy is out of his plans. Adoma or solomon asante will be consided

  3. D LIGHT says:

I asked one FA member why Akwasi Appiah keeps ignoring Abeyie… He Answered- ” He is not good defensively!”. And i asked, what of his Attacking Traits? N he completey got chocked. Its funny, isn’t it?

The Major weakness in most Attacking Talents all over the world is the inability to Defend wen possession is lost. B’cos of this realisation, coaches adopt a system dat do not xpose their frailties, but takes full advantages of their Attacking prowess to snatch points. For instance, Barcelona knows their Attacking Quintet of Xavi, iniesta, Messi n Villa r not very gud Defenders… The reason they amass abt 75%-80% of possession so dat their opponents can’t have more of the ball. Jose Mourinho who plays the Direct-counter attacking soccer (VERTICALIDAD) is aware his trident of Ozil, kaka & Marcelo r worse dèf. Dat is why he multipurpose Khedira, Alonso & may b Essien as their def-cover. Jupp Henckies does same 4 Robben at Bayern wit Gustavo & Shweinstiger. They don’t do away wit their Attacking geniuses just b’cos of their weaknesses… But rather finds antidote for their Usefullness.

The BS is blessed wit so many defensive midfielders n Multi-purpose playerz- playerz who can cover the weaknesses of our Attackers. Wat the BS need badly is a Midfield Orchestrator like Abeyie. Someone to carve n Craft moves in the final Third. We nid dat Passer not a Defender. He giving such an xcuse for Quincy’s Omition is pure Crap & very unfortunate. We lack creativity. Messi wld have been completely Lost in games if his coaches were to tell him to run 100m square- run frm deep. BUT he önly run 50m square frm the halve line- only focuses ön the attacking 3rd of the pitch. Wise up Mr. APPIAH- we nid a Midfield Orchestrator!

Very thoughtful and insightful analysis but your spellings are inaccurate and your upper-cases are sadly misplaced.
Anyway, you make a lot of sense, so help us to understand you better. Thanks.
