Ghana's Kwadwo Asamoah, right, and Mubarak Wakaso celebrate after Wakaso scored against Mali in their African Cup of Nations
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says Espanyol striker Mubarak Wakaso will be sidelined for a few days because of a sore knee.
“He will be out for a few days after an MRI scan revealed he suffered a sore knee,” said the coach who played in the last Black Stars team to win the competition 31 years ago.
“Fortunately, the scan showed he did not damage any ligaments.”
Wakaso is suspended for Monday’s final Group B match against Niger after he picked up a second booking when celebrating his successful penalty kick in a 1-0 victory over Mali.
The Ghana coach said the other injury concern for the Black Stars is striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom, who has not recovered from a groin injury.
Skipper Asamoah Gyan missed a training session, but officials said this was a precautionary measure and the striker will be available for the Niger clash.
A win for Ghana would ensure top place in the group and a Port Elizabeth quarter-final on 2 February against the Group A runners-up.
seriously speaking,we should find a way to let this injury issue wiped out from our playing .ghanaian players are too soft please and that injury business is becoming part of our footballing life.1-2-3 injured,456 scanning,7-8-9 rule out,10-11-12 not yet fit.i mean is bad.
the reasn why they r getting injured easILY IS BECOS THEY DONT INCLUDE WEIGHTLIFTING INTO THEIR TRAINING. SCIENCE HAS REVEALED THAT ATHLETES WHO WEIGHTTRAIN GET INJURED LESS. THEY ALSO RECUPRATE FASTER FROM THEIR INJURIES BCOS THEIR TISSUES ARE STRONGER. WHEN I COME ON HERE AND ASK THAT THESE ATHLETES INCLUDE METAL AS PART OF THEIR TRAINING.IGNORANT GHFUO END UP INSULTING ME. NOW SEE?….
WAKASSO SHOULD BE USED AS A LEFTBACK/3. KASA ON THE LEFTWING/11. ATSU SHOULD BE USED ON THE RIGHT WING/7 AND MUST OVERLAP WITH KASA. AA SHOULD ALSO USE AFFUL AT THE 2 SPOT. IDONT U DERSTAND WHYHEUSES AFFUL AS A 3. MAKES NO SENSE AND IF HE CONTINUES WE WILL PAY FOR IT.
John,Bo ho biem! Anyway Heheheee!!!
If Gyan is questionable due to injury rest him and play Clottey, Gyan will come back fresh and well rested for the knock out stages. There has to be more rotation in the line up for Ghana to go far in the tournament. There is a lot of soccer yet to be played before lifting the trophy, why risk your star players against Niger. If Black Stars cannot beat Niger with a good mix of starters and non starters then they do not deserve to lift the trophy.
I know Ghana has enough quality on its bench to beat Niger. Here is my proof.
1. Adam
2. Akaminko
3. Kissi
4. Jonathan
5. Vorsah
6. Boateng
7. Rabiu
8. Atsu
9. Solomon
10. Clottey
11. Harrison
I would use a 4-3-3 formation with Akaminko on the right full back, Kissi on the left full back, Vorsah and Jonathan as the center full backs. Rabiu on the left half, Boateng in the center half and Solomon on the right half. On the left wing Atsu, in the center forward Clottey and Harrison on the right wing.
Now tell me where is the weakness in this line up? There is none but fear of change will suggest that we use the same players over and over again until they start making mental mistakes or not able to give their best and the law of diminishing returns sets in.
This line up offers defensive stability and also speed. It offers enough skill to be able to retain possession of the ball and have Niger do the chasing. These are players that will be able to recover if they lose possession and have the fitness to match the intensity of Niger.
This line up gives the starters a chance to rest up for the knock phase. If any of these players look like they are not up to snuff then the Coach has 3 subs available but I am confident that all these guys a capable of expressing their qualities and impressing their Coach who has shown confidence in them
A 4-4-2 with Atsu dropping to the midfield would also also work if necessary.
