Midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has become the fifth Ghanaian player to end up as the top scorer of an Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

With four goals and joint-top with Nigeria’s Emmanuel Emenike, the Spain-based enforcer has been named as the joint top scorer.

He becomes the fifth player from his country to achieve that feat.

Only four Ghanaian players – Ben Acheampong, Osei Kofi, Opoku Afriyie and George Alhassan – have finished the competition as top scorers before Wakaso burst onto the scene.

Wakaso gets the Golden Boot award in his maiden appearance in Africa’s flagship football tournament.

  1. African consciousness says:

Wakaso why did you miss that penalty? You had good technique and poise all the way through the tournament and to miss in the semi final when a spot at the final and sole winner of the golden boot is at stake does not add up. All the same congratulations for the golden boot and thanks for your contributions to AFCON 2013.

  2. Ansong says:

GFA MADE A BIG MISTAKE BY APPOINTING KUMASI COACH WHO DOESN’T HAVE UEFA COACHING LICENCE,NEVER COACH ANY CLUB,NEVER PLAY PRO ABROAD AND TACTICALLY BLIND.WE SHOULD GET RID OF HIM BEFORE IS TOO LATE

  3. Kay says:

CAF initially gave the award to Emenike, why they are remembering Wakaso now beats my imagination.
They even forgot to include him with AFCON BEST ELEVEN, he did better than Gyan and many chosen ones.

  4. Riquelme says:

Just trying to console urselves abi? When was he giving the golden boot? He may be the joint top scorer, but Emenike was given the golden boot because of the numbers of assist he had.

    • capstone says:

This is a big lie. Wakaso was never given golden boot award. We washed live and saw what happened on TV. Emenike received the golden boot award and trophy. How can CAF give Wakaso who scored 3 penalty kicks out of his four goals at the expense of Emenike who scored all his 4 goals in the open play. You Ghanian journalists are just trying to arrogate unnecessary praises to your players. Bunch of thieves.

    • i-man says:

omo niger, ur ignorant about all what went on at AFCON. you said last week that is not true Emenike will not play in the final. now you see ur just bilnd & def ? mumu like u

      • capstone says:

I don’t have problem with you, you just an ignoramus. Ghanian journalists should stop publishing fallacy about their players. Wakaso was not given any golden boot award. If he was, he could have been told to wait behind to collect it as that Tunisian waited behind to receive his award of best goal of the tournament. Or was he given the award in his bedroom? Of course, the golden boot went to Emenike and Wakaso – a striker that cannot score in the open play, but only penalty to take undue advantage. Of course CAF is not stupid to have awarded that.

  5. lalasu says:

to win this in ur maiden tournament is a great achievement. well done Wakaso n keep it up

capstone, don’t just watch with your eyes use your brain as well. gha & nigeria did not play on the same pitch so wakaso had to travel from far to the seen n they can’t wait for him. they gave it to him after wards, so you can go to hell …..ass

        • capstone says:

Hahahahaha … you are just making me laugh. You are a moron, a daft. “He can’t wait, the sent it to him”….. Big liars. So Wakaso has two heads that they will send it to him, when the Tunisian whose team crashed out in the first round was asked to wait behind. You people are just bunch of fools, and you can’t bamboozle us here, we are civilized. Our own Emenike is the golden boot award winner and we all saw him with his cup on TV, not behind the closed doors.

  6. wakeel says:

D problem with d ghanians is dat they don’t want accept d fact dat some people are better than them how can u in your senses compare a player who scored all his goals in open play nd a player who score 3 of his goal trough a dubious penalty it shame 4 ghanian football fans. We even learnt that some of are comparing kwado asamoa with moses…u people need a recomended glasses to watch d two players in action after all moses won third best player of d tournament nd even made list of african best eleven..

    • Black Star Fan says:

Moses won NOTHING, don’t lie to yourself. No Nigeria supported the team to win, but all of a sudden every Nigerian is coming out as usual to run their mouth. You guys couldn’t even celebrate this trophy, why? because you were not expecting it.
Keshi has resigned because of your national arrogance. You are becoming like the Zambians.

      • capstone says:

You are not even current. Put on your glasses on see clearly, Moses won fair play of the competition award. Also, Keshi has rescinded his decision and was part of Presidential reception yesterday. He is leading the team during world cup qualifiers and Confederation Cup competition this years. Shame on you.

    • Africanus says:

It is only in your wisdom that Wakaso’s goals don’t count. A goal is a goal, weather spot kick or scored in open play. You can refuse to recognize it in your twisted mind, no one cares about what you think or deductions you make.

  7. Boba Fett says:

To cut everything short, Wakaso should take a picture with the award for all to see.

  8. Mawuli says:

    Ghanasoccernet, LIARS!!

  9. Fergei says:

no body is comprn K Asamoa to moses bcos KA is more a customer than moses.

  10. obele says:

i don’t know why sudenly nigerians also want to have problems with us. just advise yourself by looking at what happened to zambia when they started messing with ghana. we are a blessed country and no country dares us and go scotfree. ghana forever, we will rise again,

  11. AY says:

@Obele, so God bless only Ghana and curse other African nation. Yet ur late president John Atta Mill was attending Synague Church of all Nations in Lagos, Nigeria. All the fruits u used in Ghana are imported from Togo. Ghana import tomato and onions from Burkina Faso, ghana import cows and goats from Niger Republic. Ghana is importing gas from Nigeria. People like u who reason with there anus, make people to called Ghanaians to senseless apes.

  12. SETH QUAYSON says:

Am asking so called some in nigerians that have they reached world cup quaterfinals before and how many times have u won afcon cup? is not 3 and how many times ghana hav won afcon? is not 4, so who is the champion,so stop calling urselves giant of africa football u have not even won u20 world cup before so stop compare urselves to ghana items of everything.

  13. TACTICAL SABUTO says:

AM HAPPY TO READ DIS ARTICLE , COS ,I SAW MY DADS NAME IN DE HISTORY OF GHANA FUTBALL,,,TOP SCORER IN 1965 CUP OF NATIONS,,,DADA, WE ARE PROUD OF U

  14. Chu says:

GSN emenike is better than all our playrs combined period. stop creating unhealthy arguments and no more BS. We r fed up

  15. bassey says:

gana will keep falling an naija will keep moving, emeneke is d man

  16. charley says:

Arrant nonsence, joint highest goal from three penalty goals?my grand mother certainly would have better

  17. Kofi says:

It is a big lie.he didnt win any thing we were so poor at d competion,we took bunch of dwarfs to afcon.they are brainless,we just need to go and learn new football tactics 4rm nigeria.i wish i was a nigerian.we are just notin compare to nigeria

  18. John says:

@ black star fan,i don’t think you are living in this planet. You said moses has never won anything, who is the most samsung fair play of the tournament? Answer me?,Apart from moses emmanuel emenike won golden boot award, the same apply to john obi mikel.I was surprised when your so called journalist tag it here that wakasso wins a golden boot award,Na big lie! Even blind man who watched on that knew the award was giving to emmanuel emenike. Then u said keshi has resigned but thank GOD he has rescinded his action.OMG! What a superb welcome yesterday at ABJ CITY,when he was honoured with OON(ORDER OF NIGER),always be current with what is going on in your environment, don’t open your mouth to any convenient radius and start talking bla! Bla!! Bla!!! ,K,Ghananians are impatient at all why can’t they give him patient? Even the white man you hired in 2008,what has he done? We try it in nigeria by hire a white man in 2010,after shuiabu has qualified us for the world cup,but it was a shame when we lost to underdog like greece, draw against underdog north korea.Be patient!
