Wakaso fails to extend tally for AFCON goal king

Posted On Sunday, 10th February 2013

Mubarak Wakaso missed a penalty in the third-place match

Midfielder Mubarak Wakaso missed an opportunity to increase his goal tally at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana’s 3-1 defeat to Mali for third-place on Saturday.

The Espanyol-who is joint top scorer with four goals-failed to convert a penalty which could have bettered his chances of winning the golden shoe award.

Wakaso blasted over the goal post in the 57th minute after Gabonese referee Otogo Arnaud pointed to the spot after Salif Coulibaly was adjudged to have handled the ball inside his own area.

The 22-year-old had previously scored three spot-kicks in the tournament.

With Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike battling for fitness ahead of Sunday’s final against Burkina Faso, Wakaso was in a good position to win the top scorer prize.

Wakaso is an excellent player who got swollen headed by our praises.Immediately I saw him rushing for the ball I knew he was going to miss it.Anyway,I hope he has learnt his lessons to maintain a cool level head next time.

  2. Kisy says:

I guess u are human afterall !! Atleast u were the only bold one to step forward to covert our penalty kicks. Unlike our captain who was scared of what people will say when he misses. Kudos wakasu for your overall performance in the tourny. U were our brightest spot together with fatau and Atsu.

    • askantwi says:

You are extremely biased. Kwadwo Asamoah was our best player by 10 miles. He was playing in defence, midfield and attach. Fatau did well in just one match. How many goals did Atsu scored?

  3. Josimar kwesi says:

Another case of underservd penalty given to us,the ref made a mistake and he knew it,the better team Mali still won the game,by 2015 it will be 33yrs waiting to win Afcon again hmmmmm, wat a wait!the jinx continue, nxt Afcon we gat look for a better juju doc, this one we used f**kd up bigtime, so we can end this kinda endless waiting.

  4. Jo says:

    Always scorig with soft penalties.

  5. Queresi says:

Just stop using juju,i don’t work and u meet a prayerful team all that juju burning in dat pot works against u STOP THE PRACTICE if u want us to make Brazil.

  6. Those who have decided to speak against asantes in all instances, politics and now football.you must be careful or else you are starting something unsolvable in the future. those players he selected are not asante boys so what is the tribalism you are talking about. the integrity of asantes can not be trampled upon by fools. Try it and you will DIE.
FOOLS HATING ASANTES WILL NEVER HAVE PEACE IN GHANALAND WHICH WAS CONQUERED BY ASANTES B4 THE WHITES TOOK OVER.
