Well this is one nobody saw coming, Chelsea have signed their seventeenth attacking midfielder by grabbing Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu, who had been heavily linked to Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton.

Chelsea beat London rivals Tottenham for the second time in the transfer market this summer as they signed the Porto winger Atsu.

The Blues sensationally snatched Brazilian forward Willian for £30million shortly after he had completed a medical at White Hart Lane - and Jose Mourinho denied his former assistant Andre Villas-Boas another signing.

With six creative midfield players - Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Andre Schurrle, Juan Mata, Victor Moses and Wilian - now at Stamford Bridge Atsu has been sent out on loan.

The Spurs boss, who gave Atsu his debut at Porto, has been tracking the 21-year-old since it became clear that he would not sign a new contract at the Estadio do Dragao.

Liverpool also made a £5million offer for the young Ghana international as he entered the final year of his contract this summer but failed to agree a fee - leaving Chelsea best placed to sign him for as little as £3.5million.

So why were all of these club chasing the Ghanaian youngster. See the video highlights of some of his best action and judge for yourself:
