President John Mahama has tasked the Black Stars to defeat Egypt in Kumasi today and give Ghanaian an early Christmas gift by qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.
The country’s leader put his encouraging as he surprised the squad with a shock visit at the training grounds in Accra to motivate the team ahead of the crucial World Cup play-off with Egypt on Tuesday.
He said “Let’s focus on this match. I took time off to see you because I am the chief supporter of your team, the leader of this country and to tell you that the whole country is solidly behind you.
“We will do all we can to support you win this match. As we do our part, all of us can not go on the pitch so those who are going to represent us can expect nothing but our support.
“We have come a very long way to this point. All the matches we’ve played have finally come down to this one game; the last hurdle we have to cross to be in Brazil. So this match is more important than all the matches we have played. So let’s focus on Egypt and let’s defeat them.
The Black Stars are attempting a third successive appearance at the World Cup after spells in Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010.
The winner over the two legs will book one of Africa’s five slots to the quadrennial gathering of 32 teams.
