Cape Verde players dance to Asamoah Gyan's song before training

By Ameenu Shardow

Cape Verde began Thursday’s training session in a highly buoyant mood with danceable tunes including the hit single of Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan, ‘African Girls’.

The team though arriving late for their evening session at the Westbourne Oval wowed the very few fans and predominant Ghanaian media present with their native songs off an iPhone sound system.

The team cranked up the surprise when they started singing and dancing to Ghanaian hit song ‘African Girls’ which featured Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan.

It was such a refreshing sight to watch as the players suited up for training in such relaxed mode.

They were however full of confidence of beating Ghana in the fist quarter final match of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

Cape Verde have already exceeded expectations with their first time qualification to the knockout stage of the prestigious tournament.

They will however be hoping to extend their fairy tale story in South Africa with an unlikely victory over the Black Stars on Saturday.

These capeverdeans are portuguese based players and they are dangerous. Our players must make sure there is no surprises especially our defence. They should go into the game with the same team play and do the job! simple. BStars noooooo size

    Soccer fans toast hoax

TWENTY-FOUR hours after Zambia was ejected from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), soccer fans yesterday shockingly went into wild celebrations following a hoax that the Chipolopolo have been reinstated into the competition.

In Lusaka, the fans, who were crestfallen after Zambia’s early AFCON elimination, went into wild celebration with some cars honking in the central business district in what FAZ vice-president Boniface Mwamelo described as “just a cruel joke.”

In the late afternoon, a rumour mill churned out one last stunt for Zambia at the 2013 AFCON, alleging that Burkina Faso has been ejected after they used goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye who was red carded in the previous game against Ethiopia.

However, the fact was that Abdoulaye was not used against Zambia but instead the Stallions fielded Daouda Diakite in their 0-0 stalemate.

Times offices in Ndola and reporters’ mobile phones were clogged with several inquiries about the rumour but FAZ spokesperson Erick Mwanza posted on twitter that the rumour was fake and that most Zambian players had gone back to their clubs.

Why is everybody afraid of these Island boys?
Yes, cape Verde have done well, but do not forget they won just one match in this tournament. Angola left the tournament with just a point, so Cape Verde is no special, they are just average like Bafana Bafana.
Ghana beat them with a Team B, now, what stops us from beating them again? We have more quality to beat any team now. Please, support the Black Stars to play their best game.

  8. selfmade says:

SoRry cape verde…. Ghana has peaked at the right time and i can bet my last pesewa that history will repeat itself!!! U ll be annihilated!!! Viva the revolutionciooooo

  9. Zg says:

Cape Verde will not like this song after playing us saturday, because Asamoah Gyan is the one going to take them out of the tournament.lol

  10. My fellow Ghanaians, let stop ageuing with these poor Zambians. It’s a foolishman who always fight a little child. We no these Zambians are 1 year in football. When those on the same level with us see us this way, they’ll laugh at us. They want to be lyk us but they are far far behind us. It will take soo many years for them be lyk us. We should ague with nations lyk Cameroon, Egypt, Nigeria not a developing football nation lyk Zambia. We are already developed in football even in some other sporting event.

  11. A*S*E*M says:

What, this is unbelievable I’ve never seen anything like it before..?
how can a team that is preparing for quarterfinals AFON will allowed the media to bombarding their training session like this no security what so ever.
    Very disturbing if you me…!
UP GHANA UP BLACKSTARS FOREVER *****.

  12. @Kwaku…..just a piece of advice. A word to the wise is enough. A man cannot always watch nincompoop guys lyk Kwaku to always fool around.
