Asamoah Gyan in the form of his life in the UAE

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has described 2012 as a wonderful year despite the death

of his mother.

The Al Ain striker is topping the goalscorer’s chart after the first round of the UAE Pro League with 21 goals – one shy of equaling his debut tally of 22 that won him last season’s Goal King award.

Gyan started off the year in highly disappointing fashion with the Black Stars.

Ghana failed to win a medal at the 2012 Nations Cup where Gyan missed a crucial penalty in the semi finals against eventual winners Zambia.

He later announced his temporal retirement from the national team following the barrage of insults meted him and his family for his second vital penalty miss at a major tournament.

The ex Sunderland hitman returned to the national team nearly six months later and was made substantive captain of the Black Stars – replacing clubless John Mensah in the process.

He then lost his mother to a car accident just after helping Ghana secure qualification to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

The Ghana captain however insists the year has been overall good to him especially with his breathless club form.

“I would say it has been a good year for me,” he said in an exclusive video interview with GHANAsoccernet.com.

“I will say good and bad as we all know what happened with me losing my mum.

“But aside that I think it went well. I believe God has been very good to me.

“I have just finished the first round of the season with Al Ain where I have already scored 21 goals.

“So in all I think this year has been wonderful and personally my career is going on well.”

Gyan is currently in Ghana on a brief holiday before joining the Black Stars team for the pre-Nations Cup training camp in Abu Dhabi on  January 4.
