Vice President Mahama's Comments On Kennedy Agyapong Condemned

Posted On Thursday, 10th May 2012

The New Patriotic Party, (NPP) Northern Regional Communication Team has punched Vice President John Dramani Mahama over his reactions to Kennedy Agyepong?s alleged genocidal comments.

The Vice President during his recent visit to Ho, the Volta Regional capital commended Voltarians and Gas for ignoring the comments made by the NPP Member of Parliament for Assin North.

But the NPP Northern Regional Communication team has cautioned the Vice President against fanning ethnic divisions in the country.

In a statement signed by a member of the team, Fredrick Tahidu described the Vice President?s action as more dangerous than Kennedy Agyepong?s comment which he said was taken out of context.

?The Vice President?s expression of gratitude to the chiefs in the Volta Region is crafty and a hypocritical attempt to incite the Ewes against the Akans with the intention to win political favor from the Ewes.?

“I wonder why the same Vice President has refused to express gratitude to the chiefs and people of the three Northern Regions for not taking up arms against government over its failure to successfully implement the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority .?

He also took a swipe at Mr. John Mahama for not apologizing to the chiefs and people Gonja land over government?s reneged promise to carve a new region out of the northern region to be named, the ?Gonja land region.?

?The Vice President promised his own people Gonjas that when the NDC is giving the mandate he was going to ensure that the northern region will be divided into two but today we are at the final lap of the NDC administration and they have not been able to do anything about it; so we think that the Vice President has woefully failed to fulfill the promises that he made before his own people.?

Fredrick Tahidu therefore appealed to the Clergy and civil society organizations to call the Vice President to order.

In a related development, the team commended the Democratic Freedom Party 2008 Parliamentary candidate for the Salaga constituency, Mahama John Shirazu popularly known as Malaysia for donating a satellite decoder and its accessories to augment the team?s work.

John Shirazu who joined the NPP soon after the 2008 general elections confided in the team members that their hard work was winning more souls for the NPP in the Region.

He disclosed that some constituencies in the northern region including Salaga, Kpandai, Tamale North, Damango, Yapei/Kusawgu, and Sawla/Tuna/Kalba have also benefitted from his gesture.

The NPP?s Northern Regional Communication Director, Abudu Abdul-Ganiu who received the satellite on behalf of the team thanked Mr. Shirazu for his support and gave the assurance that the donation will be put to good use.

Present at the presentation ceremony were Mohammed Abdul-Kudus, Sule Salifu, Ishaque Abdul-Lateef, Salifu Baba S.S.B and Fredrick Abukari Tahiru, all members of the Northern Regional Communication Management Team.

The rest are Umar Mohammed Anyass Gazali, assistant secretary for Tamale Central Constituency and Abdallah Badawi, a member of Kandahar Boys.
