Veteran trainer JE Sarpong wants the immediate return of Michael Essien to the Black Stars.

The 29-year-old played his first full game for Real Madrid in their 2-0 win at Rayo Vallecano in their rearranged La Liga clash on Monday night.

The Ghanaian super star impressed heavily for the Whites –leaving many Chelsea fans scratching their head and wondering whether the decision to allow him to leave could come back to haunt them.

The experienced ex-Liberty Professionals tactician is urging Ghana boss Kwesi Appiah to recall him for the return fixture of the 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi next month.

“I think he (Essien) should immediately be called into the Black Stars,” Sarpong told Accra-based Happy FM

“He has started playing and there is no need for him to stay away. I think the coach should talk to him about returning to the national team with immediate effect.

“Essien is a calm man. He will play at any position that is given him. Even if he comes on a substitute it will be good for him.

“In my candid opinion, we need him in the team and should be as soon as possible.”

The Ghanaians need all their experienced players available for the crucial return leg against the Flames in  the capital Lilongwe.
