Dutch side NEC Nijmegen are set to complete the signing of German-born Ghanaian defender Marcel Appiah on a season's deal, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively confirm.

The 26-year-old who can play across various positions in defence and either flanks has impressed NEC manager Ruud Brood during their pre-season games and he is set to award him with a one-year-contract.

Appiah joined NEC, who have been relegated into the Dutch second-tier, two weeks ago and debossed his patent thrilling pacey play and solid defending, impressing in games against AZ Alkmaar, Real Sociedad and Greek side OFI Crete.

He became a free agent after deciding against signing a new deal for German side Arminia Bielefeld, where he spent six seasons, after the end of the 2013/14 season.

Appiah is expected to undergo medicals on Tuesday and complete his move before end of the week.
