Everton's hopes of landing Ghana winger Christian Atsu on loan from Chelsea is on the brink of collapse as the London giants are unconvinced over regular playing time, to source close to the player has told GHANAsoccernet.com.

Atsu, 22, agreed personal terms with the Toffees last week leaving Chelsea and Everton to reach agreement to finalise the move.

However, Everton failed to agree to a proposed clause in the agreement that would secure regular playing time for the player and the Blues have opted out of the deal.

"Atsu might not join Everton because there seem to be a situation where the club has failed to guarantee him regular playing time and Chelsea are not happy about that," a source close to the player told GHANAsoccernet.com.

English papers claim Everton are now looking to sign English midfielder Tom Cleverley from Manchester United.

Atsu arrived at Chelsea over four weeks ago after completing his loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem but Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho showed he has not got him in his plans for the upcoming season as he excluded him from his pre-season squad.

The latest development on the future of the youngster will put clubs on red alert with Celtic, Hamburg SV and Dutch side Feyenoord likely to revive their interest in securing the player.
