New Sochaux boss Herve Renard will sign Ghana defender Harrison Afful when the transfer window opens in January, GHANAsoccernet.com has learnt.

The French gaffer who took charge of the Ligue 1 side is a long-standing admirer of the versatile full-back and has penciled down the 27-year-old for a move when the transfer window reopens.

Herve has been tasked by Sochaux to up the standards at the club and finish in a respectable place on the Ligue 1 table.

The former Ghana physical trainer who quit his job with Zambia's Chipolopolos to take over at the Stade Auguste-Bonal, believes the former Asante Kotoko full-back has what it takes to excel in the French top-tier.

Herve will have to make a decision on Ghanaian winger Ishmael Yartey who still has a contract at Sochaux.

Afful is still contracted to Tunisian side Esperance du Tunis but he will not be prevented from leaving the club after serving them for four seasons.
