Tottenham to fork out £12m to land Porto winger Christian Atsu

Posted On Friday, 16th November 2012

Christian Atsu is been tracked by Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham’s pursuit of FC Porto winger Christian Atsu could be in doubt after a £12m price-tag was placed on the winger’s head.

The 20-year-old Ghanaian international is a target of Andre Villas-Boas with the former Porto boss sending scouts to the Estadio de Dragao recently to watch the left-sided winger.

However, Atsu is keen to remain with the Portuguese outfit as they battle for another league title under Villas-Boas’ successor, Vitor Pereira.

“We are in talks to renew the contract. Porto are a great club and I want to stay. These things are in the hands of my manager. I only think about playing, nothing more,” Atsu told A Bola.

Villas-Boas called a 17-year-old Atsu up to the senior Porto side in May 2010 but eventually elected to leave the five-cap Ghanaian international on the bench as Porto beat CS Maritimo.

  2. Papa Nkrumah says:

Tottenham has more than a few players like Atsu so maybe he should consider a team like Liverpool where he could be guaranteed more playing time.Perhaps even Arsenal, Swansea or QPR

He needs a champions league team

  4. Mochacho-USA says:

Boi, for most tyms ,your 1st decision is always the best. Stay at FC Porto, y’all playing champions league plus , and there is a posibility of you guys winning the league . Spur is not bigger a team than Porto………exposure n playing tym is the key here. Stay and develope, I feel sorry for Warris cos after watching him play for GBS nd Malawi game,he needs to developed b4 moving to a big club in a racial country ,Rusia…….God be with you and all the best,Ghana needs you

Atsu should not rush for money but name first

  6. keith from germany says:

atsu should definately stay with porto becuz for me tottenham is an overhyped team.what has this team achieved in recent years.
porto has won the champions league in 2004 n there were were europa league champions in 2003 as well as 2011.they have won the portuguese league on svereal teams.i kno one cant compare the english league to the portuguese but porto is hundred times better than hotspurs n all of u kno that for sure.
he should just be patient becuz sooner or later he will get his chance to play for porto.
n bro mochacho i with all due respect disagree with u on the warris issue.
apart from the cape verde game how many minutes playing there did he get to prove himself?
IF U GUYS KNOW UR FOOTBALL U WILL see that his contribution in the cape veerde match was very good.
the problem the blackstars is facing is that our midfielders dont feed the strikers well with the ball.
a player like derek boateng was messing up with the ball.did u see the kind of faulty passes he gave.warris wasnt feed well with the ball n instead of akwesi appiah leaving him to play the whole game,he subtituited him n that made ghanains think that warris is not up to the task.
ghanains are found of using players on 1 or two times n then they wont be given chance any more.akwesi appiah is also not treating jordan well becuz this boys are young n from experience young players need trust from their coaches becuz if they dont get this, they fail to perform.
the blackstars is now fr3fr3kobor becuz i dont see any system in our game.
everybody who knows me on this site knows that i critizise constructively.

  7. Christo says:

Chris don’t listen to the self-styled football technicians. Go to a team where you will get regular football not 20 mins of a match currently on offer at Porto. Remember Andre Villas Boa bought for Porto and again promoted you to the first team. So I think he will be able to ensure your football develops further. Just listen to your manager. Don’t let these self-styled football gurus prevent you from making your dreams. Football is a short career. So make the most whilst you are young.

  8. Virgin-broda says:

I think Atsu should follow this man,if a coach like u,irrespective of other quality options around u,he will always opt for u,let’s take Mikel Obi for example,he shouldn’t have been playing when good options like Essien n Meriles were around but de coach likes him, also Essien shouldn’t have been getting first team football in Madrid but Mourinho is his soccer father so,I think Atsu should follow his soccer father n he will not regret it.
