Michael Essien is seeking to leave Chelsea ahead of the 2014 World Cup

The January transfer window might come as a succour for Chelsea's Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien as he seeks for a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Essien, who is one of Ghana's key players, has been peripheral for the English side this season, is looking to get playing time and will look elsewere this January.

The winter transfer window opened today allowing him to see the much-needed move.

According to his agent Fabian Piveteau several top European clubs are in the running for the former Lyon and Bastia midfielder.

A move to the French moneybags PSG has not been ruled out as they will be able to pay his high wages and the transfer fee Chelsea might demand.

Greek outfit Olympiakos, who have had some Ghanaians at their team in the past, have made their intentions known to the Blues,and are considered favorites to sign the Accra-born centre back.

Essien, who was part of Ghana's squad in the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, has already reiterated his desire to move to get first team football that will get him in top shape as the 2014 World Cup looms.
