The National Accreditation Board has said it did not aim at the personality of sacked Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah but the institution which conferred a honorary doctorate degree on him.

The board announced last week that the Day Spring Christian University of Mississippi, which honoured the ex-Ghana coach a Doctor of Psychology in Sports, is not accredited.

“The Day Spring University hasn’t been given the accreditation to award degrees in Ghana, hence makes any certificate or award issued, null and void,” The Executive Secretary of the National Accreditation Board Kwame Dartey told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“They have conferred honorary degrees on certain individuals and because they don’t have the right to do that it makes such titles questionable.

“I think the people involved should have contacted us to verify, if the institution had accreditation or not, but unfortunately, they went ahead for the award.”

Appiah was honoured for becoming the first local coach to qualify the Black Stars for a World Cup finals.
