Malmo FF are interested in signing Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan when he becomes a free agent in the summer, according to reports in the Swedish press.

The 27-year-old’s contract with German club Schalke expires at the end of the current campaign.

Schalke are not keen in extending Annan’s stay following failed attempts in past transfer windows to offload the Ghanaian.

The ex Hearts of Oak player is said to have been tracked by Malmo coach Age Hariede since his days at Norwegian giants Rosenborg.

Malmo who have qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League following their domestic success last term will be ready to sign Annan especially with no transfer fee to be paid as his contract with Schalke runs out in the summer.

Annan, who had brief loan stints at Vitesse and Osasuna is desperate to get his club career back on track having suffered a prolonged injury.

The 27-year-old has only started making appearances for Schalke this season to ignite his hopes of making Ghana’s squad for the 2014 World Cup.

That’s great. Top players deal with top clubs and I think this is Annan’s chance to gain more playing time. I wish him well.

Annan is too good to play in the Swedish Allsvenskan, I think he still have enough left in the tank to play in one of the elite leagues. Now that he’s started making some cameo appearances for Schalke I wouldn’t be surprised if they offer him a contract extension cuz its clearly that the manager has plans for him. However if that is not the case then he should let his agent secure him a deal elsewhere. I think he still have what it takes to make the cut in some of the mid table clubs in the bundesliga, la liga or even the EPL. I just hope that he gets at least 5 or more games consistently so that he can return to full form before the WC squad is named. He’s the best defensive midfielder we’ve had over the past decade or so and I will choose him over Rabiu, Badu & Acquah on any given day.
