Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari has rejected the unwanted ‘bad boy’ tag insisting he wants a quick return to the Black Stars in the wake of his indefinite suspension from the national team for unruly behaviour.

The AC Milan is battling to rid himself of the image of a bad boy after he was expelled from Ghana’s World Cup camp in Brazil for physically attacking a Ghana FA official.

The 29-year-old physically attacked Medeama Sporting Club owner Moses Armah without provocation during a meeting over the unpaid Black Stars appearance fees at the tournament.

He was suspended indefinitely for the attack on Mr. Armah, adding to several incidents since he joined the national team as a teenager which seem to have damaged his reputation.

But the AC Milan star is refusing to admit that he is a disruptive character.

“Am I a bad boy? The fact that I am a bad boy, excuse the term, is rubbish,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“People have a false picture of me and I want to prove that I am a quiet person on and off the field.

“I am not saying that I have always been a saint, but I am now grown up, I feel different and everyone who knows me knows I stand for the truth and I hate cheating.

“I might have gone wrong a few times because I am human but it is not as the bad boy as people think I am.

“As for those who judge me badly as a footballer, I think they don’t know me too well. This could be my year.

“My objectives are to take us back to the Champions League and to win something in this shirt, and to return to the national team because I can never turn my back on Ghana.

Muntari was also involved in a tirade with Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac at the 2010 World Cup finals and nearly got sent home.

At the 2004 Olympics in Athens, he was thrown out of camp by coach Mariano Barreto and even threatened to quick international football at age 20.

Do you think Muntari should return to the Black Stars? Do you think he should apologise for the attack on Mr Armah? Make your views known in the box below:

I know that, a lot of Ghanaians are hurt and pissed off about what happened in Brazil and most of them has put the blame on AA which is quite understandable providing that he was the man in charge but even in the mist of this confusion, Ghana had a fabulous, virtuoso performances that ll stood the test of time!

A lot of people watched the matches in the heat of the moment and hence cldnt enjoyed the spectacular football Ghana exhibited to the WC!

    Onaaa po.
You are not coming back till you apologize to the whole nation.
You can’t take the nation for ride. Apologize, up your game, change your attitude, respect your elders and you will be considered for future call up.

    • kwesi says:

Collins, by your comment I can see there are still some true Ghanaians around…what happend to the banners of respect, humility and wisdom which were so deeply ingrained in our culture? Have we sacrificed them all on the altar of soccer? Or do we throw away all the precious elements of our culture because we’re being exposed to foreign and ‘liberating’ ways of thinking? Is soccer all we have as a country? Wasn’t the WC a means to an end to so manny of us? Profiling our people and country on the world stage with dignity…..under the banners of ‘righteousness and cultural development’ we are against cheating, and therefore we insult, slander, curse, threaten and beat each other literally for the whole world to see…Lord help us.

Sulley you claimed to be a good boy but people are tagging you as a bad boy but let me ask. Why is it that you are always having problems with either a coach or management member. Is it that all of them have been cheating you.Am quoting this small peace from the story above

” Muntari was also involved in a tirade with Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac at the 2010 World Cup finals and nearly got sent home.

At the 2004 Olympics in Athens, he was thrown out of camp by coach Mariano Barreto and even threatened to quick international football at age 20”. So all of them are cheating you. hmmmmmmmmmmm

  16. Boro says:

To return to the BS to do what? Massa kill your mind because your romance with the BS is over. No serious football country will entertain any player with this kind of indiscipline. Concentrate on AC Milan and leave the BS alone. You have done enough to demonstrate that you are indeed ungrateful and hypocrite so stop wasting your time on coming back to the BS bcos that won’t happen.

Sule never deserves a come back to the Black Stars even if he apologises.
This is not the first time, He should be used as a scapegoat to deter the young coming ones.
I’ll be shocked if this notorious footballer is called back to the national team again.
