Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila is determined to help Mamelodi Sundowns maintain their lead of the South African top flight with a win over SuperSport United on Monday.

The pressure has cranked up on the Brazilians at the top of the league following their shock defeat to Mpumalanga Black Aces in their last game.

Sundowns are now just two points adrift closest rivals Kaizer Chiefs ahead of Monday’s trip to SuperSport.

Pitso Mosimane’s side know they have to beat the former champions to guarantee top spot as the end of the first half of the season draws closer.

And the Ghana defender is fired up to play his part in ensuring Sundowns come away with maximum points from Pretoria.

“We know it’s not going to be an easy game but we want to win,” Sumaila told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“We have done very well throughout the season but we face a difficult task on Monday.

“We want to remain on top of the league and that means we have to beat SuperSport.

“We will continue to play as a team even though personally I will want to do well in helping the side get the important points.”

Sundowns is amongst four teams who have two games in hand as the first half of the season draws to a close.
