Stephen Appiah won't return to Vojvodina over unpaid wages

Posted On Tuesday, 30th October 2012

Stephen Appiah in action for Vojvodina last season

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah will not return to Vojvodina because the Serbian giants have still not paid part of his salary for last season.

The 31-year-old spent four months with the top-flight club last season, making a huge impact in his short stint with the club.

Appiah was handed a two-year extension at the end of the season but has refused to sign the contract without giving any reasons.

Vojvodina this week increased pressure on Appiah to sign but the ex-Ghana international is still unwilling to sign without giving any reasons.

“I know Appiah is still on our cards, it has been difficult getting him to play for us again because of his huge status,” the club’s manager Zlatomir Zargocic said.

“I hope a deal will be struck soon because he is an important player who can greatly help our quest for trophies.”

But sources close the the inspirational leader of Ghana’s 2006 World Cup and 2010 World Cup teams have told MTNFootball.com that Vojvodina struggled with paying his salary.

Appiah aided the club to qualify for the Europa League play-offs on an annual salary of $100,000.

The former Fenerbahce man is currently a transfer target of clubs in UAE, Qatar and China.
