Stephen Appiah training with his Perspolis teammates on Friday

Midfielder Stephen Appiah trained with his new side FC Perspolis on Friday ahead of their Iranian Pro League match in a fortnight.

The ex-Juventus star arrived in Tehran yesterday (Thursday) to complete his move on a free transfer.

Appiah, 31, will be a key addition to Manuel Jose’s side who are struggling this season.

He was signed as a direct replacement for South Korean Kwon Jun, who has been sidelined with a foot injury.

FC Perspolis are 11th on the league table and play Zob Ahan on 19 November.

Appiah has rich experience playing club football abroad having featured for Udinese, Parma, Fenerbahce, Cesena and Bologna.

He spent four months of the back end of last season at Serbian giants FK Vojvodina.

Appiah captained Ghana at the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany and helped the Black Stars reached the round of 16.

But he quit international football four years later after playing a bi-part role at the World Cup finals in South Africa.

  5. SANTROFI ANOMAA says:

CAPITO APPIAH YOU CAN STILL PLAY FOR THE GHANA BLACK STARS, YOU ARE STILL GOOD AND EXPERIENCE PLAYER AND LIKE SOME ITALIAN PLAYERS THEY ARE OLDER THAN YOU, YOUNG AT HEART AND THEY PLAY FOR THIER COUNTRY TOO. ONLY IN GHANA WHEN A PLAYER REACHES 29-30YRS WE START TO TREAT THE PLAYER IN UNPLEASANT WAYS OH YOU ARE OLD BLAH, BLAH BUT EXPERIENCE COUNTS. WE HAVE TO CHANGE THAT AND LET PLAYERS RETIRE ON THEIR OWN. CAPITO STEVE IS STILL GOOD. COACH APPIAH SHOULD ENCOURAGE THE OLD PLAYERS STILL PLAY COME ON BOARD FOR THE WORLD CUP2014. HOW OLD WAS PORTUGAL FIGO BEFORE HE HANGS HIS BOOT.

  6. niinii says:

Massa Santrofi, we all know that 29/30 here means 35/36, or even 39/40. U can’t compare to the Italians, who use real age.

    • Wasky says:

My brother Niinii you have let the cat out of the bag.Infact you have hit the nail right on the head. Thank you very much. Our so called African players especially Ghana should stop the cheat and come out with their right age.If you are 30yrs and you reduce it by 3yrs and you say you are 27 I would expect you to run like a 27yrs guy,so if you run like a 30yrs at your propose 27yrs we will automatically say you are not good enough. But if you say you are 30yrs then we will see your situation from that angle and count on experience and not strength.Because we will not expect you to put in the energy that 27yrs old will put into play. Can you imagine,I am 27yrs and my elder brother who is 3yrs older than me is playing for Bennin Under 20 national team.So just imagine by the time comentators will say he is 25yrs what do you think will be his right age by then??? A word to the wise……..
