Stephen Appiah: Ghana can count on Kwadwo Asamoah at AFCON

Kwadwo Asamoah will be important for Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah wants midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah to replicate his rich form at club level at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Appiah has taken notice of Asamoah eye-catching displays at Juventus this term and believes Ghana can be title contenders if the 24-year-old transfers his form to the Nations Cup.

Asamoah has often been criticized for failing to sparkle for the Black Stars at major tournaments.

But Appiah, who played for Juventus between 2003 and 2005, is refusing to give up on the versatile midfielders.

He believes Asamoah will come good at the Nations Cup in South Africa.

“He is an excellent player and with continuous hard work, we will see more of him in the national team,” the 32-year-old told TV3 Sports.

“You know there is more pressure playing for country than club.”

Asamoah has made 18 appearances for Juventus in the Serie A and scored two goals in his first season.

    Attend! Attend!! Attend!!
Since Ghana won Africa cup of nations in 1982 they have never
    win any trophy for 31years.
But for this year i strongly believe
    that Ghana will surely lift
    the trophy in south africa
    to end 31 years trophy
drought. Look! now that the new
year is 2013, if you put 1 behind 3 and you will
see 20’31′. This show that 2013 is the right year for Ghana to end 31 years trophy
drought. I don’t promise that Ghana will win cos i don’t want to use my promise in big vain. But you guys can just believe what i said cos i’m not joke. I’m serious. Ghana will lift the trophy this year amen!

tornado….its not about replicating form o. if milo n doya had played u out of position….u cudnt hv sparkled, tornado. tell d kumasi coach to play players in d right positions and he will see magic. ivory coast realized dat trick n all players are shining! i dont see coach lamouchi playing “chico” siaka tiene at the right full back…or drogba in midfield….never; but hey….come to ghana…..n we foolishly believe that any player who is good can play any position…!!

  6. Ghanaba says:

This guy called Maka, you are very funny. Weren’t you one of those people who attacked Milo and all the other foreign coaches claiming they are not good and attacked the GFA for not picking a local coach. Now you seem to have realised how good those coaches were and that you have been stupid all along. Hope you are beginning to learn about football. Make sure next time, you think very well before speaking.

  7. Kay says:

Akwasi Appiah needs people like Tornado at his corner to do all the motivation.
Wise up Akwasi Appiah, you need Stephen and John Mensah to be around the players. Learn from other countries.

  8. Askantwi says:

Please, do not put too much pressure on Kwadwo Asamoah.

  9. Sergeant says:

Those who took the number 10 jersey from Kwadwo should give it back to him.

THIS YEAR 2013 WE ARE MOVING FORWARD. FORWARD EVER BACKWARDS NEVER! PLEASE GFA BOSS AKWASI NYANTAKYI GET A CONSULTANT FOR THE BLACK STARS COACH IT WOULD HELP US GREATLY, I HAVE SAID THIS SO MANY TIMES,GET BACK MILO AS A CONSULTANT FOR COACH AA AND THE TECHNICAL TEAM FOR MORE IN SIGHT OF THE SYSTEM AND TACTICS TEAMS ARE USING IN THIS AGE OF OURS.

  11. Kwame says:

My question is why do all our sport writers and journalist always refer to our players with their age as status. Please stop this age representing thing and write your story by JUST using their names without the age attached.Just write your story and only use their names pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee. This is absurd..where do you read such nonsense…only with our writer..2013 change..we the readers don’t need their age..we can google their profiles for our own personal interest..Thank you

  12. bawah says:

TORNADO IS LACKING IN THIS TEAM!

  13. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

IF I WERE AA, I WOULDNT INVITE KASA TO AFCON. HE SEEMS TO PLAY WELL FOR CLUB, BUT SUCKS BIG TIME FOR GBSTAR. THIS TREND WONT CHANGE AT AFCON 2013. KASA HAS BEEN TO 1 WCUP AND 2 AFCONS. IN OVER 40 APPEREANCES FOR GH, HE HAS SCORED 1 GOALS AND MADE 2/3 ASISTS.WAT IS THIS? THERE R HUNGREIR PLAYERS OUT THERE. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY KASA ALSWAYS GETS CALLED OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN….

  14. Chu says:

A modern total player of k.asa’s calibre play at least 2 positions. But the lad can’t still find it. The white shirt is heavy. He can still be a good student From the bench. 1 goal in about 45 matches. Which of our current midfielders apart from lazy Derek has this poor record. Kwadwo sucks totally

  15. vinny1000 says:

Tornardo i agree with you but lets not concentrate on one player on the pitch but to encourage all the players that will make the final cut, kwadwo is an excellent player but we need 11 to make up a team and should be focused on building up a good team but not to hype one player, this can affect the others phsycologically. no disrespect Mr Appiah, just expressing my view. God bless the great blackstars
