Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah was bullied by security personnel when he tried to enter the VIP lounge at the Baba Yara Stadium during Ghana's 2014 World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

The Ghana Ministry of Sports lined up the former Juventus man who led Ghana to two successive World Cup appearances and a group of former internationals to motivate the Black Stars squad ahead of their 4-0 drubbing of Sudan.

Appiah was on his way to the VIP lounge at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi when he was turned away by a security personnel at the entrance.

Officials at the lounge intervened to prevent further embarrassment but the security personnel stood his ground causing Appiah to decide to leave the Stadium for his child's birthday party which he abandoned to motivate the Black Stars players.

It took the intervention of Asante Kotoko financier Kennedy Agyapong to talk the former Fenerbahçe man into rescinding his decision.

However after more dignitaries came into apologise to Appiah, the security personnel claimed he does not know Stephen Appiah.

Appiah took the opportunity to air his concerns about the treatments melted out to ex Ghana internationals.

Stephen Appiah led Ghana as captain between 2003 and 2010 when he officially retired from international duty after the World Cup in South Africa.

Appiah won the 1997 Ghana Premier League with Hearts of Oak as a youngster before achieving more laurels in Italy, winning the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana with Parma and Juventus respectively.
