Athletico Bilbao's Spanish forward of Ghanaian descent Inaki Williams has downplayed hopes of him playing for Ghana insisting he feels more part of the Basque society even though he remembers his African roots.

The 20-year-old was born to a Ghanaian mother and a Liberia father but has yet to feature for his country of birth or countries of his parents.

This means he will eligible to play for Spain, Ghana and Liberia.

Ghana officials have started monitoring the talented forward who came off the bench to score for Bilbao against Torino in their Uefa Europa League clash.

This means he is the first black player to score for Bilbao in the history of the Europa League as they drew 2-2 with Torino last Thursday.

But he has stated he feels more Spanish even though he did not state he will not play for Ghana.

"You hear people say 'A black player at Atletico Bilbao? We've never seen that before.' I just laugh. My name is Inaki and I'm from Basque,” Inaki told Thinking Football."

“My parents came here over two decades ago and I can identify with the stories because they did so much for me. I was born here, I've been here for 20 years and although you never forget your roots, I feel Basque".

Inaki has grown through the ranks at Bilbao after joining them as a teen some couple of seasons back.
