Shakes Mashaba eyeing Ghana upset

South Africa’s U17 coach Shakes Mashaba believes his team can still qualify ahead of Ghana for next year’s African Championships.

The Amajimbos must overturn a 3-2 deficit suffered in the first leg when they play away to the Black Starlets on Saturday in Sekondi.

The task to qualify to Morocco ahead of Ghana considering the first leg result, appears herculean but Mashaba believes his side can still nick it on ‘enemy’s’ territory.

“It’s not about standing a chance to beat Ghana, when you got to compete, you got to compete and can’t fail yourself and say you have a chance or not,” the ex Bafana Bafana coach told Aseda FM.

“For the fact that they (Ghana) came to South Africa to beat us by three goals, we can also do same, but our only problem is that the pressure is on us.

“We’ve got to win by two goals to zero, that’s the only pressure we’ve got.

“We are only hoping we change the pressure into positives.”
