Sought-after striker Waris explains Hacken stay

Posted On Saturday, 1st September 2012

Abdul Majeed Waris is a wanted man

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris says prospects of winning the Swedish Allsvenskan top scorer award kept him at BK Hacken despite receiving offers from stellar European clubs.

The 20-year-old goal machine had been a target of several top league clubs including Bundesliga outfits Hamburg SV and Werder Bremen.

French Ligue 1 side Saint Etienne and Catania all inquired about his availability.

Waris could become the first Ghanaian player to win a top scorer award in Europe in recent years.

He says the prospect of achieving this great feat forced him to stay put.
“I took my mind off moving from Hacken because I want to win the goal king award. If I win it then I can start thinking about moving,” Waris told MTNFootball.com.

He scored a brace on Friday to take his league tally to 17 and 19 in all competitions.

WRONG, WRONG and more WRONG. He would be the second player to win the goal king in Europe – the first being Tony Yeboah in Germany.
