We did all we could to sign Ahmed Toure - Hearts board member Commodore Mensah
Ahmed Toure has re-joined Asante Kotoko

Commodore Mensah insists the Hearts of Oak board did all it could to sign striker Ahmed Toure and that the player has only acted in bad faith.

The 27-year-old has signed a three-year contract to rejoin rivals Asante Kotoko despite agreeing to join the Phobians.

Commodore Mensah claims and agreement was in place to sign the Ivorian striker for a combined signing-on fee of GHS 100,000.

The Hearts board member says an initial GHS 80,000 amount was agreed to by Toure and his manager.

But this figure was revised upwards to GHS 100,000 to cater for the player’s fresh demand for a car.

Mensah claims the ex Lokeren player after strucking this ‘gentleman agreement’ with Hearts returned to his native Ivory Coast only to nicodemously sign for rivals Kotoko.

The Hearts board has been blamed of negligence in their pursuit of Toure who played and scored in his first game for the Phobians in the pre-season GHALCA Top 4 competition.

But Commodore Mensah has dismissed these claims, saying the club did all they could to sign the Ivorian striker.

“We did everything we can to sign Ahmed Toure,” he narrated to Happy FM.

“We had an initial agreement of GHS 80,000 for him to sign for us. Days later they came with a demand that they wanted a car – Toyota Camry – on top of the amount.

“So we adjusted the signing-on figure to a GHS 100,000 to cater for the purchase of the car and this was agreed.

“Toure and his manager then told us they were going to Ivory Coast to secure his release letter and then return to come and sign the contract. We even gave him money to take a flight to Ivory Coast.

“Our new goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye even spoke to him while he was in Ivory Coast and he gave assurances he was coming back to sign the contract only to hear a day later that he has gone to sign for Kotoko.

“Toure’s camp have clearly acted in bad faith but for the sake of goodwill we will let this one go and focus and protect what we have.”
