Serbian coach Ljubinko Drulovic approached by Ghana FA for technical director job - report

Serbian coach Ljubinko Drulovic

Serbian coach Ljubinko Drulovic has been approached to become the new technical director of Ghana, according to local reports.

The 45-year-old who is currently managing the Serbian national team on an interim basis has opened preliminary talks with the Ghana FA to partner Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah to fashion out a technical policy that will permeate all the national teams.

Reports fast gaining currency suggests the Ghana FA will be insisting on the appointment of an expatriate technical director as one of the conditions for the contract renewal of coach Kwesi Appiah.

Appiah presided over Ghana’s disastrous campaign at the 2014 World Cup but the Ghana FA had already resolved to hand the former Black Stars captain a two-year contract extension even before the tournament commenced in Brazil.

The GFA however appear wobbly on that stance in recent days with reports they are being pressured by authorities in government and some members of the powerful executive committee to tweak the technical set up in a grand way.

Appiah according to the website of newly established Starr FM, will be told of the news of the imminent appointment of an expatriate technical director when he returns to the country from an extensive holiday to sign onto his contract renewal which had been agreed on in principle.

Appiah who took over the Black Stars reigns in 2012 from Goran Stevanovic according to sources, will reject this condition and step down as coach of the side.

Reports of the appointment of a technical director became prominent in the lead up to Ghana’s abortive campaign at the 2014 World Cup.

This follows statement made by former Ghana FA boss MND Jawula and the then aid to the former Minister of Sports Yaw Ampofo Ankrah that Appiah was incapable of managing the team on his own.

German Klaus Topmoller and Serbian Milovan Rajevac were linked to the role but the Ghana FA insisted it had no plans whatsoever to make such an appointment.

The association however stressed they would consider making such an appointment only at the request of Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah.

…best news i have heard since 2010! d whole world saw it….akwasi appiah is damnnnn useless….he has had the team for over 2 years and was assistant to 3 foreign coaches and still didnt learn a “dot”!

See, Joachim Lowe was only an assistant to klinsmann…..one time….just klinsmann only….and even though he was learning on the job, u could see that the potential was there! He wasn’t playing Marco Reus or Ozil in defence, and he wasnt playing jerome boateng as a striker!!

In other words, the potential of a good coach is always seen by how he plays his best players or deploys his arsenals!…and with time….Lowe has won the world cup!

Give akwasi appiah 25 yrs and he still will not win a thing —the guy has no coaching brains! We wanted a local coach and i think max konadu could have been made to take over appiah’s position…but bringing in a serb to partner akwasi…who will be d boss or who will take advice or instruction from whom? so dis can bring further confusion….

i believe akwasi appiah must be forced to resign….which is being done…and dats why i am happy….cos he would never have stepped down after disastrous campaigns in afcon and the world cup….he should simply have done what other coaches who failed did…but naaah,…blackman akwasi….now he would be forced to resign if he can’t have a technical director…and indirectly….he would be forced to quit!

long and short…akwasi appiah is not good enough to handle to black stars…. his tactics are backward thinking and every astute coach can beat him with average players –and we saw it when klinsmann outwitted and beat him in easily the most important but easiest game!

akwasi should go…or be forced to go….and if it will take a technical director to force him out,…so be it folks! cos with him in charge…ghana will win nothing in 50 yrs…twiaaaaa….useless coach!

I predict the technical director is coming in so he can take over after the January AFCON. Now will not be a good time as Kwesi has the players on a game plan that with a few months for the next tournament wont make sense to change coaches. He must leave after Jan. for the technical Director to take over. I think he can smell it too, hence his refusal to go along with it. I am only guessing though.

Appiah must go, Appiah go go o go and leave the national team alone is not ya property

  2. Selfmade says:

Guys let’s support our own,AA || get better as time goes on.

    • Tex says:

      Selfmade,

I agree! Coach Appiah did not have the same working environment and support as his predecessors. He simply didn’t have a snowballs chance. If you have an un-supportive FA how can you do well?! Did you see Belgium dealing with the same problems?! OR the USA? NO! If I were to rank the teams in Ghana’s group based purely on talent 1. Germany 2. Ghana 3. United States 4. Portugal (they were terrible this year). However if you were to rank those teams in terms of stability and support Ghana is dead last.

    • Anokwale says:

Well said Mr. Selfmade. People assume that an expat is just going to come in and do wonders. It just does not work like that. Stability is important.

  3. gbormor says:

Shameful decision (that is if this is true). Because someone fails to do his job well he is now blaming others. Appiah is the one to pay for the teams appearance fee which led to dissatisfaction in the playing body hence uninspiring performance. Shame to us Ghanaians who put our stomach first before our mind and those of us who follow blindly. By the way if they want technical director none can be found in Ghana?
Why do we like to play second to expats. SHAMEFUL INDEED

    • Tex says:

      gbormor,

Agreed! There’s no player accountability or the FA taking any of the blame. You succeed together and fail together! Let’s learn from the mistakes and get better! This is Ghana’s most talented generation of players it shouldn’t be wasted…and it starts with the FA! Ghanaians are capable of leading this team to glory if it’s done right! Coach Appiah was in a nightmare situation that ultimately festered and blew up and now he’s being blamed. Very shameful INDEED!

    • xoxoKSxoxo says:

No he was not to pay for the teams Appearance fees but he was responsible for having the right goalie in the post and not change him for height reasons when the one coming in was 3inches shorter than the better one already in the post.
No, Appearance fees was not his responsibility but he was responsible to have a starting 11 before going to the WC and not wait for the first game to decide who should play.
No, Appearance fees is for the GFA not KA, but KA was responsible for making sure Kojo Asamoah is freed from the left back for Schlupp but decided to drop him and go to the WC with only 6 defenders causing him to play his best midfielder in defense.
Are you kidding me?? you mean to tell me you didnt see the bad decisions by KA that caused us a spot in the round of 16?

Kwesi Appiah should not have played Jordan ayew ahead of Boateng. The boy sits on the bench for his club. He had a hot leg in a friendly against S. Korea so he gets a spot in the starting 11? No wonder he will not pass the ball. He should not have started the games but come on as a sub at best. Why only two friendlies before a world cup when everyone was playing 3 matches to tune their game plan and players?

      Dont get me mad charlie.

      • Milky says:

xoxoKSxoxo spot on!!!!! I dont know how anyone will defend this coach! I dont think people hate him personally, he just inst fit for the job. I will almost all the time hold the coach responsible when a team performs badly. To be a stand up coach, you resign from the coaching post when your team performed as badly as the Ghana did and especially with the current crop of players. I dont blame the players, I blame the person who does the selection.
It sucks that, they have to find extra money to pay a technical director to pretty much baby sit the main coach. Now we are paying 2 people instead of 1…something Ghana not afford. That money should towards education or something. The best solution is to hire one good/competent coach period.

  4. lion-fire says:

Is this a case of anyone but AA. Who is this guy, and what are his technical credentials

  5. RAS AB,, says:

YES GHANA ,,,,,,,,,,,,WE ALL MUST TO KNOW THAT ,AKWASI APPIAH IS A BEST COACH GHANA HAVE EVER GOT , THIS HAVE TO PROVE TO US THAT ,,HE IS CAPABLE TO TAKE GHANA TO HIGH LEVEL IF OUR GUYS SO CALLED PRAYERS TO COME DOWN WITH THIRE PERFORMANCE AND THINK TO STAND FOR THIRE NATION WELL ,,I BELIEVE WE DO BETTER IN ALL INTERNATIONAL LEVEL,BUT IF NOT WE WILL NOT GO ANYWHERE .EVER THOUGH IF THEY CALL BACK GREAT COACH TO TAKE THE JOB,,,,,,,,APPIA MUST GIVE A CHANCE TO WIN NATION CUP FOR GHANA!!!!!!!!!!

  6. A concerned citizen says:

RAS.AB..What are you talking about..Who hired you to write this? The worst coach you should have said..Give him a technical director plus a personal adviser he can not perform..He must be kicked out…period..

  7. Adebayo says:

I think many of us make the mistake of thinking the rebellion in the BS camp was solely about money. A good number of the senior players simply had no respect for AA and this was evident in the attitude of KPB who was bold enough to air the views of these ‘senior players’. The lack of respect increased after the defeat to the US which the senior players attributed to the ‘ingenuity of AA’ who decided to start his most experienced players from the bench in a make or break match! AA may be on the learning curve, but does he really have what it takes to man-manage these ‘professionals’ of the modern game? I doubt it!

  8. achei says:

It seems our leaders are in love with mediocrity. Bringing this coach to be head if this rumour z true will be ‘madness’. Bt any way his sucees will depend om how well he makes his boys trust and beleive in his philosophy

  9. Google Maps says:

Appiah hasn’t got what it takes to manage these top professionals. Sack him n take a more civilized coach

  10. banger says:

THATS SOO FUCKIN DISRESPECTFULL MAN..AT WCUP I THINK AA DID OK.LUCK WAS NOT ON OUR SIDE.EVEN SPAIN AND ENGLAND WENT HOME EARLY. GIVE THE COACH A BREAK MAN . DURIN THE QUALIFY HE DID OK.BUT I KNO SOME UNGRRATFULL MOTHERFUCKERS ARE TALKIN SHIT. WE SHOULD DECIDE AFTER THE ACON..

  11. selfmade says:

Get your own I.d. and stop impersonating me becos u cant never be me!

  12. Alhaji says:

No wonder you said ACON? Most people here are clueless and just want to air their confused brains here, who should allow AA after AFCON.we should wait for the damage to be maid and then what fix it?I don’t think AA should be maintained and the chance is here, let him resign, hurray!I don’t support the Serbian ring though I think Maxwell Konadu,Ibrahim Tanko and a technical director not Serbian will be in the right direction, during the World Cup you saw the Dutch bench, lots of old stars on the bench all of them are put together to share ideas, the same as the German bench.modern football needs brains and ideas and not just playing 4-4-2 or any formation,it needs just more than formation, why did Brazil fail, all down to mentality and confidence,Ghana needs a good bench to inspire the team, most of the players from their various clubs learn so much and they just need someone to direct their ego.AA is not up to that task, the guy himself lacks confidence how can he inspire or manage their ego.

  13. selfmade says:

AA ll win us afcon! Mark this space! Again why do people want AA to step down on his own accord? It don’t make sense for him to step down because:

    1) when he do that, he ll lose all his entitlements!

    2) The FIFA can take him on depinding on the contents of the contracts!

When he get fired or forced out,he ll:

    1. He ll be pay all his entitlements as well as any damages!

    2. He can sued the fa for more money depending on the contract terms!!

I really don’t understand why some people are saying that, AA should resign own his own terms!!

Again, the GFA is also very smart and they know that, should they fire the man, he ll THREE TIMES RICHER! We all know that FIFA doesn’t joke with such issues!

Some for those calling for AA, to resign or to be fire by the GFA, which one is a smart move!!

Instead of us to put pressure on incompetent GFA to be competent, we are rather doing what we know best, fire the coach after every touranmnet!!!

Ghana, according to FIFA, play Africans best ever world cup match against Germany and moreover, Ghana was one of the best team not to have qualify to the second round in Brazil!!

This is the truth and is one!

  14. Banger Phill says:

SELFMADE THANK U MY BROTHER MAY THE ALMIGHTY GOD RICHLY BLESS U AND MULTIPLY YOUR DAYS ON EARTH.

  15. PITO says:

We should keep A.A for him to play Fatau Dauda (bench warmer) over Kwarasey? Who takes blame for Fatau dauda gift to Ronaldo and the two goals Germany scored ?

We should keep A.A for him to shuffle the team like a poker player after every single game? On What grounds does Kwadwo Asamoah play in midfield today and defense the next day?

We should keep A.A for him to play Rabiu over Essien? Who takes blame for lack of creativity in the Portuguese game?

We should keep A.A for him to take rookie defenders to world cup when we have enough experience ones fit at the time? Like David Addy and Vorsah? Who takes blame for John Boye foolish flippant attitude in defense because it is his first world cup?

We should keep A.A only for him to always fight with his best tools because he doesn’t even have the CONFIDENCE to USE them!

SACK HIM BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!

  16. Dickson Pep says:

Look guys AA is wack n failure, lets face e fact stop supporting a failure, evin keshi of Nigeria stepped down after round of 16, A good coach doesnt use ur bst player in Europe as a left back, look @ hw schalke uses K.P.as a central midfielder n he performs lyk no 1s business, a good coach wuld watch n learn frm hw e club sides deploy n uses his player.K.p wid rabiu, ayew n kojo–left right, gyan-waris ws ur best shoot butden he killed it, BAD COACH, WACK COACH, ALLO COACH, AA UR WORDS ARE MORE BIGGER DAN UR ACTIONS, DATS SHULD BE OPOSIT

  17. maubs says:

some ghanaians hate progress and refuse to face common sense and logic even if it stares them in the face. AA is no good as BS manager period. it is nothing personal. As for those questioning the serbian in both times that they have been in charge we have done well and with goran in particular i saw ghana playing to a certain pattern similar to the previous managers’s way and very easy for the blackstar players to play. with time and good personell i believe goran would have been a success. i belive he was removed so the corrupt people will have their way and it was done at a bad time with a tournament coming up. England invented football yet their recent success has been under foriegn managers. Argentina has had managers from Chile, and you look at how many south american teams had foriegn managers at the world cup and you will see that having a foriegn manager is not a disgrace. Patriotism is good but it is also the bane of fools, dictators and undesirables. Patriotism led hitler to declare war on the world. Can you identify a playing style of appiah? does it continue what was going on before? does it look like he has a playing style and his recruitment of players is done to fit this winning style? and for the western colonised and slave brains dissing serbia, even arsene wenger recommended a serb to take over from him when he finally decides to leave. in sports research, advisory roles, sports medicine etc serbias are employed in that capacity across the major clubs in Europe including Barcelona. Serbs as the majority people in yugoslavia led yugoslavia to a lot of sports success. Yugoslavia was the formost and advanced eastern european country during communism. so dont bitch them. I was thinking we will go for a south american who is a pan africanist, conscious, marxist or even black. But the Serbian will be allright. i think they know our game and the previous ones were successful so am sure this one will like to prove even more successful than the other two.

  18. selfmade says:

To all those block headed forumites who can’t think beyond the length of their noses, can y’all answer me this simple questions?

Has any foreign coach including the Serbians ever won anything for Ghana?

Any want smart answers from this simple question!

  19. danida says:

Sack akwasi appiah now and apologize to all Ghanaians GFA for giving AA additional contract even in the face of disastrous campaign . shame on you all I guess JH e refuse to share the money so all have gang up against him
