According to English media reports FIFA president Sepp Blatter has criticized Brazil's slow preparations for the 2014 World Cup.

Six of the host nation’s 12 stadiums have reportedly failed to meet December 31st deadline, which has also affected work on hotels, airports and roads.

The 77-year-old president, who has been working for FIFA since 1975, said in his 39-year long career Brazil is the only host country which has been so far behind in its preparations.

"No country has been so far behind in preparations since I have been at Fifa," Blatter said in a statement.

"It is the only host nation which has had so much time - seven years - in which to prepare."

The tournament opens on June 12th, when Brazil will face Croatia in Sao Paulo's Arena Corinthians, where two workers died after a crane collapsed on November 27th.

Brazil, which was lasted awarded the World Cup in 1950, was elected to host this year’s finals in 2007.
