Selection to the Black Stars is the sole prerogative of the coach - George Afriyie
Kevin-Prince Boateng could make a return to the Black Stars at the behest of new coach Avram Grant

New Black Stars management committee chairman George Afriyie says selection of players into the team lies solely in the bosom of coach Avram Grant.

The former Chelsea manager’s appointment ushers in a new era for the Black Stars ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Grant will however need to deal with the immediate issues of the availability of some players considered key to the Black Stars.

These players include Michael Essien, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari who are facing various degrees of disciplinary issues committed during Ghana’s poor campaign at the 2014 World Cup.

The Ghana FA has also made major changes to the management committee of the Black Stars with George Afriyie replacing Kwesi Nyantakyi as chairman.

The new management committee chief insists selection of players into the Black Stars team is the sole prerogative of the new coach.

“To be very honest with you, the criteria for selection into the Black Stars rests solely on the coach,” Afriyie told Kessben FM.

“He is the commander in chief with regards to selection so I leave that to him.

“I am yet to meet the new coach, I am yet to receive his program and the direction he wants to take the team.

“So I am unable to comment on the status of these players as at now.”
