Schalke defender Felipe Santana has lauded his club’s summer signing Kevin-Prince Boateng and feels that the midfielder is an important player for the German outfit.
The 27-year-old, who himself made a switch to the Veltins Arena this summer, has previously played with the Ghana international at Borussia Dortmund.
Santana believes that Boateng will bring a lot of experience to Schalke, but was quick to add that the Blues need to function as a team if they wish to earn positive results in the manner of their 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the club’s last Bundesliga match on 31st August.
“Well, we played alongside each other for six months and we get on well. Kevin’s a really nice guy and an exceptionally good player,” Santana told the club’s official site.
“Kevin’s obviously a very important player for us. He’s come from a big club and has a lot of experience but he’s not the only key player.
“There are always eleven players on the pitch and every one of them is important. We need to function as a team if we’re to put in performances as good as the one against Leverkusen, for example.”
Santana joined Schalke on a three year-deal from the club’s fierce rivals BVB earlier in the summer.
The Brazilian made 112 appearances for his former employers in all competitions, netting eight times.
