Schalke 04 chief Peter Peters has backtracked on his claims Kevin-Prince Boateng quit AC Milan due to racism.

Peters claimed the Ghanaian international left Italy to join the German outfit after battling persistent racist attacks from fans.

But the Schalke manager has gone back on his words and says he got it wrong.

"After consultation with our manager Horst Heldt, my assumption has proven to be completely wrong,” Peters said

“He confirmed that racist incidents were definitely not the reason for Kevin's move to Schalke 04.

"As soon as I'm back at Schalke, I will apologize immediately in person at Kevin for this statement."

The 26-year-old shocked the footballing world when he signed a four –year deal with the German outfit on transfer deadline.
