Sarpei to give it one more go before retiring

Ghanaian defender Hans Adu Sarpei is considering playing one more season in Europe before retiring from active football.

The 35-year-old’s contract with German side Schalke 04 expires at the end of the current campaign but the left-back is failing to give into retirement talks.

“My contract will expire t the end of the season and in June I will turn 36,” Sarpei posted on his Facebook page.

“In the coming weeks I will decide if I finish one last professional contract at home or abroad.”

Sarpei joined the Gelsenkirchen side form Bayern Leverkusen in 2009 and says the last two season’s with Schalke forms part of his fond memories in his over 14-years of professional football.

“These last two years at Schalke were fantastic, I remember the DFB Cup semi final against Bayern (Munich), the Cup final against Duisburg and the miracle in Milan.”

Sarpei who was born in Germany was an integral member of the Ghana squad that made it to the grand finale of Nations Cup and quarter finals of the World Cup respectively in 2010.

      He is an Ashanti as his middle name, ‘Adu’ suggests.That’s his full name is Hans Adu Sarpei. I think his right name is Hans Adu Sarpong but he westernised it to be Sarpei.
