Official: Samuel Afum signs three-and-half year deal for Young Boys

Posted On Saturday, 5th January 2013

Samuel Afum has inked a three-and-half-year deal at Young Boys

Ghana attacker Samuel Afum has signed a three-and-half year contract for Swiss side Young Boys Bern for an undisclosed fee, Ghanasoccernet.com can exclusively confirm.

The 22-year-old passed medicals on Thursday morning after arriving in Bern and inked the deal which will keep him at the Stade De Suisse Wankdorf Bern till 2016 on Friday evening.

Afum has been handed jersey number 7 and he hopes a spell with the Swiss giants can help kickstart an illustrious career in Europe.

After departure of Zambia forward Emmanuel Mayuka to EPL side Southampton and the sale of Argentine forward Raul Bobadilla to FC Basel, Young Boys boss Martin Rueda believes the Ghana youngster has the qualities to propel the Yellow and Blacks in the domestic league.

The former Ghana Premier League golden shoe winner has been rewarded for his impressive performance for Egyptian side FC Smouha.

Young Boys have sustained their interest in the Ghana U23 attacker despite the Egyptian Premier League being suspended almost a season.

He netted 23 times in all competitions during his two year stint at Egyptian side FC Smouha.

He is expected to make his debut for Young Boys when the Swiss Super League resumes in February.

Great move Afum. Next Black Stars striker. I hope Kwesi Appiah is following this guy. The sky is the limit Sammy….. Phooooobia never say die.

  2. Dr Who says:

Am happy for Afum & and know AA will be happy too because AA coached him when he assembled a squad that played a friendly against Sierra Leone in 2010 to mark their independence day.Afum and Sadiq Adams were the strikers for that 1-1 encounter.Good news indeed!

  3. jay-jay says:

Kwesi Appiah should start watching this striker because he is better than Richmond Boakye-Yiadom and Emmanuel Clottey. He has speed, shooting accuracy and ability to hang on to the ball…… We expect big things from him in Young Boys…. Good luck Samuel. Ghana is proud of you.

  4. Don King says:

I watched some videos of this man guy and I think he is doing very well. Young Boys have made a very good signing and I pray that he succeeds. The Ghana coach must also give him some attention and let’s see what he can do. For me, he is better than most of our strikers. except maybe Gyan, Waris and Jordan…….

  5. sabato says:

thank 4 dis move. i fink is a gud one. God be wit u Affum.

  6. Maxwell Johnson says:

Trust me Folks Affum is the next big thing for GH football, he has everything a striker needs. He’s got pace, technique, shooting accuracy and some sublime skills to take on defenders with ease, he is a nightmare to defenders.

In Egypt they call him the “JET” due to his enormous pace, he makes defenders work a lot. A.A should start monitoring him cuz he will be key in our WC qualifiers, he’s the real deal. Good luck Affum, we expect you to make it BIG in the Swiss Super League. Hopefully you’ll move to one of the biggest clubs in the world such as Man United, Barcelona, RM, AC Milan or Juventus in 2 yrs time.

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

IF I WERE AA, I WOULD EVEN TAKE HIM TO AFCON 2013. HE CAN HELP US IN THE STRIKING DEPT. EGYPT WON THE AFCON 3 STRAIGHT TIMES WITH LOCAL BASED PLAYERS. WHY DO WE NEGLECT TO CALL GHFUO PLAYERS BASED IN EGYPT FOR AFCON TOURNEYS? BEATS ME…

  7. lukman says:
