Ex-Ghana defender Sammy Kuffuor has rubbished claims by his former U17 national team-mate Yaw Preko that all Ghanaian players have age-cheated in the past.
Reacting to the news that over ten players of the current U-17 national team had been sent home for failing the MRI scan which checks ages, Preko was quoted to have said it was an open secret in the nationââ¬â¢s football.
But in a counter response to the subject matter on Supersportââ¬â¢s Soccer Africa program, Kuffour who is now an in-house pundit on Supersport, denied ever cheating age-wise.
ââ¬ÅI met Yaw Preko in the national team. He was my senior, he was there before I went,â⬠Kuffuor said.
"We come from different backgrounds, different environments. Maybe they did it for him where he came from but me they didnââ¬â¢t do it for me. I played with my real age.ââ¬
The former Bayern Munich defender who played for all of Ghanaââ¬â¢s male national teams at every level, making his debut at Italiaââ¬â¢91 as a mere 15-year-old.
He was Prekoââ¬â¢s teammate as Ghana won the U-17 World Cup in 1991.
