Sack Akwasi Appiah if his competence is in doubt - Baah Nuako
Ghana coach Akwasi Appiah

Ghanaian football consultant Kwame Baah Nuakoh believes Akwasi Appiah be made to step aside if the feeling of his perceived incompetence prevails rather than bringing in any form of unwarranted assistance.

Rumours are still rife that influential personalities both within the Ghana FA and government are still trying to talk the ex Ghana captain into accepting some form of technical assistance.

There were earlier reports of the Ghana FA was looking to employ a technical director to help the Black Stars trainer at the 2014 World Cup.

There reports have however been consistently debunked by the GFA who insists they have absolute trust in Akwasi Appiah.

The rumours of trying to force in technical assistance ahead of the World Cup finals in June will however not go away – with reports discussions remain ongoing to have the coach cede into the idea.

But Baah Nuakoh who was part of the Asante Kotoko management team under Dr. K.K Sarpong feels the only way out is to have Akwasi Appiah step aside if his competency remains in doubt rather than try to lure him into accepting any form of assistance.

“Has the coach requested for any form of assistance?” he quizzed on Metro FM’s Academic and Matured Sports program.

“Unless you do not have confidence in the person who is head of coaching then I do not see the need for you to bring in assistance when the person in charge has made no such requests.

“We first have to analyze our coaching structure and see whether such a role of advisor or director fits in.

“If you feel the coach is weak, he has some shortcomings and the coach is adamant and says he can do the job but then you feel strongly he cannot perform, then you ask the coach to step aside.

“Otherwise there will remain a deadlock and that is not what we need.”

Ghana look to go at least one further than the quarter final finish at the last World Cup four years ago in South Africa.

The Black Stars must first get out of a tough group alongside Germany, Portugal and USA.
