Russian club keen on Ghana midfielder Kingston

Ghana midfielder Laryea Kingston is set to return to the Russian top flight league to play for a club in the strife-torn region of Dagestan.

The 29-year-old is a free agent after being released by Scottish side Hearts at the end of last season.

Kingston is now set to return to Russian where he is wanted by Russian top division side Anzhy Makhachkala, now 11th in the league .

The club's manager, Gadzhi Gadzhiev, said: "Yes, we are interested in signing him I believe that this midfielder is up to the level of our premier league." Before joining Hearts in 2007, Kingston spent several years in Russia playing for Krylia Sovetov Samara, Terek Grozny and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Gadzhiev had already had an experience working with him in Samara.

Dagestan has now succeeded Chechnya as the chief terrorism trouble spot in the south of Russia following a succession of bombing incidents that have left police and civilians dead.

When Rangers were drawn against Anzhy in the Uefa Cup first round in season 2001-2, Uefa ordered that the tie be played as a one-off in neutral Warsaw after lobbying from the Foreign Office who deemed the area unsafe.

Rangers won the match 1-0 with Bert Konterman scoring.
